Detroit Adult Entertainment: Drive-By Shooting at Detroit Bus Stop Injures 7 Teenagers

June 30, 2009 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

A gas station owner, Steve Hakim, said he had seen two people with T-shirts covering their heads run across his lot toward the bus stop. Then, Mr. Hakim said, he heard about 10 gunshots, saw a boy and a girl fall and called 911.
The police were reviewing video taken from the gas station’s security cameras, Mr. Hakim said.
A schools spokesman, Steve Wasko, said there was “nothing that we’re aware of at this time” linking the shootings with any fight or dispute at the school. Mr. Wasko said the shootings happened at 2:15 p.m., about 15 minutes after summer school students had been dismissed for the day.
Imam Abdullah El-Amin, an owner of Numan Funeral Home near the intersection where the shooting took place, said drug dealing, prostitution and “hopelessness” were common in the area.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Synagro bribery case leaks probed

June 30, 2009 at 4:36 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

Gerald K. Evelyn, a Detroit criminal attorney representing Greene, did not respond to a call or an e-mail Monday.
Riddle is a former top aide to Detroit City Council President Pro-Tem Monica Conyers, who on Friday pleaded guilty to bribery conspiracy and announced her resignation Monday.
Conyers admitted she took about $6,000 in cash for voting in favor of a $1.2 billion sewage sludge hauling and treatment contract awarded to Synagro in the fall of 2007. Conyers switched to supporting the contract, allowing it to pass 5-4.
Riddle, who has said his telephone was tapped in connection with the Synagro investigation, could not be reached for comment Monday. He is under investigation as a possible conduit for payments to Conyers and has denied accusations he shook down strip club owners who needed a City Hall license transfer.

Detroit Escorts: Troubled, lonely flock to Web site for flings with married cheaters

Politicians nationwide also are providing plenty of fodder for discussions about infidelity – Wednesday, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford confessed that he secretly left the state to travel to Argentina to be with his mistress – and Biderman isn’t letting the opportunity for free publicity pass. Earlier this month, AshleyMadison was in the news when a Las Vegas newspaper rejected its full-page ad capitalizing on Nevada Sen. John Ensign’s admission of an extramarital affair. Biderman placed a similar ad in the New York Post when Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned after he was caught using an escort service.

“What I’m saying is don’t have an office romance and risk losing your job,” Biderman has said. “Don’t start a relationship with an unsuspecting single person and definitely don’t visit an escort service and risk breaking the law.

Detroit Escorts: ‘Dumb Enough to Believe That’ – New York Times

June 27, 2009 at 9:24 am | In Detroit escorts | No Comments

Monologue | Aired Wednesday night on CBS: Anybody here from South Carolina? Their governor down there, Mark Sanford disappears. He’s gone for four days. The first time he said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. Okay, I’m just dumb enough to believe that. Then he says, “No, no, no, forget the Appalachian Trail. I was in South America.” Now, I’m not sure I’m with him. Today he said he woke up in Las Vegas, hung over with a tiger and a baby.
I have to be careful here. I haven’t had much luck with jokes about governors, so I have to be careful.
But now it turns out that he was in Argentina with another woman. A married guy, got a family, he’s in Argentina with another woman. And here’s what I want to know — why can’t he be like our former governor and use a local escort service? What’s the problem?

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Chesterfield man, woman held in sex assault case – Detroit Free Press

June 27, 2009 at 5:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

The 34-year-old victim was seen running and screaming for help on Roselawn in the township about 1 p.m. Thursday. She was clothed, but her hands were bound behind her back and a gag was in her mouth, Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said today.
He said neighbors came to the womans aid, untied her and called police.
The victim told police that within the last 24 hours she had been taken against her will from Detroit and was sexually assaulted. She pointed out a house on Bay Shore where the crimes occurred and from which she fled, Myers said.
He said police placed the man and woman found inside the home, who matched the suspects descriptions, under arrest and searched the house. They seized a semi-tractor cab from the driveway and evidence related to the victims allegations. Myers declined to give further details on the evidence that was found.
He said the victim is a self-described prostitute who knew the man as an acquaintance.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Laura Berman Urban gardening lets women grow

June 27, 2009 at 5:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

This place, the Marian Center for Women’s Growth, is run by Cathy Gitzen, its very resourceful, hands-on executive director. They come for 30 days at least, and 60 days or more if they want to. They abide by rules, enjoy some freedoms, and learn about the work world by running their own businesses — catering lunches at workplaces, selling organic beauty products.
Gitzen, who ran programs for women at the Dickerson Women’s Detention Facility, knows that many women, caught in substance abuse and crime, cannot or will not change their lives. “But some can,” she says, a belief she holds after 30 years of working in criminal justice.
It was Gitzen’s notion that many of the women in jail need nurturing, addiction rehab and a chance to earn self-esteem. Their lives were punishment enough.
She has assembled a team of coach/mentors, some of whom are themselves former prostitutes, addicts, thieves, and created a home that’s about work, sobriety and mutual support.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Women writers and poets talk sex and a wry wink at the …

The author of this two-books-in-one novel is Mojo — yep, just Mojo — the same guy who brought us such gems as Detroit Street Gang and Detroit Nympho, books about the ghetto aimed at people living in the ghetto. He dedicates Cracked to luring away people who are thinking of “experimenting with crack.” Come on, who experiments with crack? Anyway, deeply rooted in the introduction then splayed not-at-all-discretely throughout Cracked, Mojo writes on how to make crack cocaine, how to go about portioning it up, how to sell it and how to get girls hooked on the stuff to prostitute them out. Throw in wads of dough and dully exploitative sex scenes and you got true blue ghetto glorification goin’ on. It reads like a true idiot wrote The Idiots Guide to Losing Your Morals & Hustlin’ in the Hood.

Mekeisha Madden Toby: TV review: ‘Hung’ — GRADE: A-
HBO’s new ‘Hung’ is big, wicked fun
On the surface, HBO’s raunchy and fun dramatic comedy “Hung” is a new series about a desperate, divorced history teacher who eventually prostitutes himself to make his financial ends meet.
But dig deeper, and this highly addictive tale, which takes place in Metro Detroit, is a metaphor for, well, Detroit.
Like the city in which it was partly filmed, Ray (Thomas Jane, “The Mist” and “The Punisher”) has seen better days. He was a star athlete with a Major League Baseball contract, a pretty cheerleader sweetheart-turned-wife and a set of happy twins.
When an unfortunate injury cut Ray’s dreams short, he ultimately had to move back to the fictionalized version of West Bloomfield Township where he grew up and teach at the high school where he first became a star.

Paramedic’s lawyer upset at ruling in case tied to Tamara Greene
BY BEN SCHMITT FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER
June 25, 2009
A lawyer for a paramedic, who said he saw a woman who alleged she had been assaulted by Carlita Kilpatrick, said today he’s upset with a judge’s decision to allow a lawsuit to proceed.
Paramedic Cenobio Chapa filed the lawsuit against the City of Detroit and the Fire Department after being fired Oct. 24, a day after an affidavit with his claims went public.
Chapa, 45, said in an affidavit released Oct. 23 by Norman Yatooma — the attorney representing the family of slain stripper Tamara Greene — that the woman Chapa saw in fall 2002 in a wheelchair was loud and emotional and accompanied by the mayor’s security team.

June 24, 2009
A judge today set aside a default judgment in favor of a Detroit Fire Department EMS worker in his whistle-blower lawsuit that accuses the city of firing him after reporting that a woman at Detroit Receiving Hospital said she had been assaulted by Carlita Kilpatrick, the wife of then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
Paramedic Cenobio Chapa filed the lawsuit against the City of Detroit and the Fire Department after being fired Oct. 24, 2008, a day after his affidavit to Birmingham attorney Norman Yatooma went public.

Chapa, 45, said in an affidavit released Oct. 23 by Yatooma — the attorney representing the family of slain stripper Tamara Greene — that the woman he saw in fall 2002 in a wheelchair was loud and emotional and accompanied by the mayor’s security team.
