DETROIT — The owner of a new pole dancing studio in Orion Township is responding to critics who call the studio bad for the conservative family-friendly town.
“I heard some say it’s immoral and obscene. My response to them is — they really don’t know what we’re doing in here,” said Wonder Woman Pole Studio owner Elona Gano.
Gano said although some of the moves are sensual, pole dancing is great form of expression and a “valid form of fitness” that builds strength and self-confidence.
Longtime student 28-year-old Lori Martin said she has been able to work off 40 pounds in the past year while pole dancing.
She added that the studio is not a training ground for strippers. It’s for mothers like herself that are “bored to tears from running on a treadmill.”
