Detroit Strip Clubs: Column: Hangovers are for adults
June 22, 2009 at 10:36 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsWhat struck me was who I saw it with. Sitting in front of me, between a man and a woman whom I presume were his parents, was a boy in a Little League uniform who couldn’t have been more than 9 years old.
And sitting down the row were two other children, maybe 4 and 7.
And a few rows up and a few rows back were several other grade-school-aged kids — all with parents or guardians.
Now, in case you aren’t familiar with “The Hangover,” it is a crude, funny, crude, wild, crude, fast-paced, crude story of four guys on a bachelor party in Las Vegas who wake up with no idea what they did the night before.
As the movie goes on, they reconstruct a night that includes sex, blood, strippers, used condoms and a frontally naked man locked in a trunk.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Council To Discuss Strip Club Rules
June 22, 2009 at 5:13 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsCouncil To Discuss Strip Club Rules
POSTED: Monday, June 22, 2009
UPDATED: 12:49 am EDT June 22, 2009
DETROIT — Detroit City Council will discuss proposed rule changes Monday for strip clubs in the city.
One of the proposed changes would ban alcohol in the clubs.
The new rules would also change the way strippers interact with clients. Under the proposed rules, lap dances would be banned. Strippers would also have to stay six feet apart from any clients. The rules also ban strippers from mingling with clients in V.I.P. rooms.
Club owners say these changes would put them out of business. But church groups are putting pressure on council to make the changes.
Thirty-one clubs are licensed to operate in Detroit, about 40 percent of the total for the entire state.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Boozeless Strip Clubs, Marijuana Ruins DNA and No More Flavor Ciggies
June 21, 2009 at 11:24 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsBoozeless Strip Clubs, Marijuana Ruins DNA and No More Flavor Ciggies
It seems Detroit is intent on turning Motor City strip clubs into burlesque halls for the straight-edges. In the spirit of the blue law, the Detroit City Council is cracking down on strip clubs by proposing to ban alcohol from the clubs. They also want to stop lap dancing and make dancers wear pasties. What’s the point?
Attorney Richard Mack who is a member of Perfecting Church and other pastors are working with Scott Bergthold, an attorney from Tennessee who has been shutting down strip clubs nationwide. In addition to the pasties rule and liquor ban, the clubs will be required to keep dancers 6 feet from the patrons and the dancers must be on stage at all times. The stage itself must be 18 inches from the ground.
Strip club owners are worried that their places will go out of business without liquor. Mack is hoping that happens. Boobs remain boobs and lonely men will remain lonely. Strip clubs in Detroit, however, may not remain any longer.

Detroit Escorts: Corktown neighbors worry as sheriff seeks bar sale OK
June 21, 2009 at 1:13 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsNext Friday, Evans is scheduled to be in court as he tries to get court approval to sell the troubled bar — once named Porter Street Station — that was shut down by deputies in 2007 on claims it operated as an unlicensed after-hours joint featuring illegal drugs, booze and prostitutes.
Neighbors are also meeting next week to make sure whatever happens next, a nuisance doesn’t return.
Since 2007, a judge has barred Evans from opening, selling or even removing equipment from the bar at 1400 Porter after the property was named in a forfeiture suit filed by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. Worthy also sought $3,646 that was seized when law enforcement raided the place Feb. 4, 2007.

Neighbors complained to police about naked women dancing, prostitution, hundreds of cars, litter and drunken visitors in an otherwise quiet corner of Detroit.
Detroit Strip Clubs: NHL attempts to expand its brand with visit to Las Vegas
June 20, 2009 at 1:01 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments… Las Vegas has always been the entertainment capital of the world,” said George Maloof, a co-owner of the Palms. “I think it’s an alternative, trying something different. It’s unique and fun.”
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is reportedly paying the NHL about US$650,000 per year to sponsor the awards show. That organization has also made it clear that it wants a franchise in the city at some point.
It doesn’t look like that will be happening any time soon.
At least one player is comfortable with only have to come to Vegas once a year for the awards show.
“It’s going to be hard for hockey players to live here,” said Ovechkin. “Every day it’s nightlife, lots of clubs, lots of strip clubs here. You know, it’s pretty hard for young guys – especially if you don’t have a wife or a girlfriend.
Detroit Strip Clubs: US attorney: We won’t be rushed on Detroit corruption case
June 19, 2009 at 7:12 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsMore bribery allegations involving Conyers have emerged in a federal lawsuit by owners of the Zoo Bar strip club against the city over denial of a request for transfer of a liquor license in 2006.
Lawyers for the club said in a May 11 filing company representatives received a solicitation for a $25,000.00 bribe in order to obtain the vote of Monica Conyers on its license transfer request at a Nov. 15, 2006, meeting. The filing said then-Conyers aide Sam Riddle conveyed the request.
The filing said club representatives refused payment. Conyers voted against the transfer request, which failed. The filing said there were further bribe solicitations made through Mr. Riddle, which were tied to a vote reconsideration but said they also were refused.
…
Riddle has said the bribery claims are false. Theyre grasping for straws to keep their strip club open, he told WDIV-TV.
Detroit Escorts: A Comedy to Inspire Premise Envy
June 19, 2009 at 5:13 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsActually, Ms. Burson used another term that cannot be published here. In fact, such effort is being made here to write this story without violating propriety or without slipping in a few sophomoric double entendres that the words being muttered at this very moment make Ms. Burson’s original term seem almost Psalm-like.
Now back to the kitchen conversation. So Ms. Burson says, wouldn’t it be great if the down-on-his-luck-regular-guy protagonist had a big penis? To which her husband, Dmitry Lipkin, immediately gives a name to this imaginary show: “Hung.”
These two professional writers giggle, eat their raw salad with chopped-up carrots and before long sell this concept to HBO. Next Sunday will offer the premiere of a comedy about a teacher in Michigan. Once a star athlete who seemed destined for success, he is divorced, separated from his children and so financially strapped that he is camping outside the fire-damaged home inherited from his parents. Heeding the words of a motivational speaker, he vows to capitalize on his greatest asset (see above) and decides to become a male prostitute.

Brad Shafer said his clients needed the City Council’s approval to transfer the licenses and permits.
Shafer said Riddle approached his clients and asked for money to get Conyers’ vote.

“If they paid $25,000, they would get Monica Conyers’ vote,” said Shafer.
Shafer said his client’s denied the offer.
The vote was split and Conyers voted against it when the issue came up at the city council meeting.
…
“They’re grappling for straws to keep their strip clubs operating in Detroit. They’re looking for a fall guy,” Sam Riddle told Local 4. “It ain’t going to be Sam Riddle. Get a new fall guy, champs.”
