Detroit Adult Entertainment: Common sense should trump a sense of entitlement
July 3, 2009 at 2:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsLocally we have our hands full with the Detroit City Council. In fact, when I chose to write about other topics, just to give everyone a break from the predictable behavior of the Council, I was accused of backing away from the issue. Our Detroit City Council, unfortunately, makes national news. Then we have our list of governors from Rod Blogijevich, to Eliot Spitzer, and not to be outdone by the Democrats, Republican Governor Mark Sanford. The scandals may vary from prostitutes, to bribes and throw in a little “bad judgment” in men’s bathrooms, and finally adultery, it makes for interesting reading over your cornflakes.
…
I am not judging what a person chooses to do in their personal life, but when it becomes public knowledge the news attention, including the public apologies, and Larry King therapeutic sessions, are we not missing the real point? There are public servants who work hard, devote themselves to important issues and author policy that should be more important than the name of the prostitute or undercover police officer in a sting.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Police: 7 teens shot near Detroit school
July 3, 2009 at 2:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsAnother summer school student, 15-year-old Bria Wilson, said she was standing at the bus stop when she heard the gunfire. She said she was facing away from the shooters and ran away after the shots were fired. But she saw a 16-year-old male friend lying on the ground, bleeding.
“They were so close â it almost hit me,” she said.
Schools spokesman Steve Wasko said there was “nothing that we’re aware of at this time” linking the shootings with any fight or dispute at the school.
He said the shootings happened about 2:15 p.m., about 15 minutes after summer school students were dismissed for the day.
Imam Abdullah El-Amin, who co-owns the Numan Funeral Home near the intersection where the shooting took place, said drug-dealing, prostitution and “hopelessness” are common in the area, he said.

Reaves, who served as the former Florida A&M University Freshman Class President, will stand in court July 16 and learn all charges bought against him, according to his Attorney Robert Morris.
Reaves would not comment on the charge, but Morris said the allegations are “serious and significant” that may “impact (Reaves) present and his future.”
He said, “Reaves will continue with normal everyday life and continue pursuit of his education and any extracurricular activity,” Morris said.
The attorney said Reaves had a written plea of not guilty.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Template needed for straying politicians
July 3, 2009 at 2:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsSen. John Ensign, R-Nev., who recently admitted to having a nine-month affair with a campaign staffer, Sanford, Craig and Foley all voted to impeach Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky scandal. All tried to hang on to their jobs after being caught. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., a defender of traditional marriage while a client of a prominent D.C. prostitute, is running for reelection despite having called on Clinton to resign. In addition, Foley was chairman of a House committee on exploited children. Craig is an outspoken critic of homosexuality. Ensign is a family-values politician.
…
Democrat Eliot Spitzer, former New York governor, held hands with his wife during his press conference admitting that he had been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel. He called the incident a “private matter” and apologized to his family and the people of New York. When a reporter asked if he would resign, he slammed the door. Later, he resigned.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: ‘Hung’: A big surprise
July 3, 2009 at 2:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsYeah, it’s a vaguely ridiculous, pathetic and distasteful career path, but Ray can live with that. And really, it’s better than becoming a meth kingpin like the similarly droopy-dog Walt on “Breaking Bad” or a pot dealer like Nancy on “Weeds.”
The series is set in Detroit, a city that kinda mirrors Ray’s life — once great and vibrant with endless opportunity, now a battered, shattered shell of its old self. For Ray and Detroit, the American Dream just ain’t what it used to be.
Jane Adams steals scenes as an oddball poet who realizes that becoming Ray’s pimp is a better money-making direction that baking “lyric cakes” (think fortune cookies, but with poetry baked into cakes. Yeah, it’s as awful an idea as it sounds). She adds a nice dose of quirkiness, and her sweetness nicely counteracts Anne Heche as Ray’s bitter, harpy ex-wife.
Pool theme.
