Jimmy Fallon: “The use of antidepressants has doubled over the last ten years. At least the makers of antidepressants are happy.” “Today is National Waffle Day, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I go back and forth.” “Radio Shack has changed its name to The Shack. They came up with that when they asked themselves, ‘What would you call a crappy looking building?’”
Craig Ferguson: “The North Korea mission wasn’t that difficult for Bill Clinton. He’s used to sneaking women out of government buildings. I wonder how Al Gore felt about Clinton saving his employees. That’s like NBC asking Jay Leno to save the whole network. I think ex-Presidents are like superheroes. When Bill Clinton sees the signal in the sky, he slides down the old stripper pole …”

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Detroit authorities target nightclubs linked to violence

August 6, 2009 at 3:13 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

Police and city officials are stepping up a crackdown on nightclubs that attract violence and other problems to Detroit neighborhoods.
Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans and other officials will hold a press conference this afternoon to detail the crackdown on clubs they say have become havens for shootings, prostitution and drugs, endangering those who live nearby.
The news conference will be held in front of the Platinum Lounge on West McNichols near Schaefer. The city said the clubs business license was revoked this week because of recent shootings and other violations.
City officials say the shutdown of the Platinum Lounge is part of a larger effort targeting trouble-prone clubs using police and the citys law and building, safety and engineering departments to get them to clean up their act or risk closure.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Three face charges after prostitution bust

August 6, 2009 at 3:13 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

TROY — Two women and a transgendered person are facing prostitution charges following a bust at the Somerset Inn.
A 39-year-old woman from Williamston, a 43-year-old woman from Deerfield Beach, Fla., and a 42-year-old transgendered person from New York were all arrested and cited for prostitution July 21.
The transgendered person also was ticketed for failing to provide officers with correct identification information and the two women have told investigators they are sisters.
All three have posted bond on the charges, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested the transgendered person on allegations of being an illegal immigrant.
Troy police Lt. Michael Lyczkowski said the prostitution charges are misdemeanors and he was not aware of when they will appear in 52-4 District Court for an arraignment.

Troy and Bloomfield Township plainclothes officers began surveillance of the three people and gathered enough evidence to make an arrest on allegations of prostitution.

Darren Little, Midlands correspondent
The head of one of Europe’s biggest biker gangs says his group is not involved in organised crime, despite its members murdering an arch rival and taking part in a mini-riot.
The Outlaws biker gang rejects police beliefs that it is involved in organised crime
‘Dink’ is European and Asian president of The Outlaws Motorcycle Club, a group he says is just friends getting together for a laugh – but which police say is involved in drugs, prostitution, murder and extortion throughout the world.
Detectives fear a worldwide feud between the Outlaws and sworn enemies the Hells Angels is increasingly being played out in the UK.
But Dink told Sky News: “If any of our lads have done anything wrong we’ve been punished for it.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Tinsley-Talabi: Council deeds ignored

August 6, 2009 at 4:12 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

The News is doing a disservice to readers who expect that it has taken an objective look at the candidates before applying misleading labels. To even mention my name in the same sentence as another incumbent who under-paid her property taxes for 10 years on the home that she lives in is absurd.
I am one of the more effective legislators at passing ordinances and solving the problems of Detroit, and I carefully deliberate over all the issues that are brought to a vote. Here are three examples:
• When citizens constantly complained about strip clubs, bars and other Detroit businesses that consistently ignore ordinance violations and are a nuisance to the neighborhoods, I successfully lobbied my colleagues and the mayor to have a Show-Cause Hearings Division to make these businesses accountable or face being shut down.
