Detroit — The Detroit Police Department is teaming up with local officials to crack down on city nightclubs where illegal activity has been found.
Their efforts have already shuttered one such spot near the west side.
The Platinum Lounge on West McNichols near Schaefer had its business license revoked this week after “a lengthy series of violations and shootings at the establishment,” police officials said.
The closure was announced Thursday by Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans and representatives from the city’s Law and Buildings, Safety & Engineering departments, who are seeking similar actions against other nightspots that allow illegal activity.
“Nightclubs like the Platinum Lounge too often becomes dens of illegal activity, including drug use, prostitution, serving alcohol to minors and gunplay,” police officials said. “Many of these clubs are immediately adjacent to otherwise quiet neighborhoods, destroying quality of life and posing a significant public safety threat.”
