Detroit Strip Clubs: Murder and cover-ups
September 30, 2009 at 1:01 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsFor years now, News Hits would have bet big that Kwame Kilpatrick had no hand in the 2003 murder of exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, who was rumored to have performed at the infamous Manoogian Mansion party that, officially, anyway, never actually happened.
The same non-party that then-Detroit First Lady Carlita Kilpatrick didn’t show up at unannounced, and didn’t send one of the dancers to the hospital, the victim of a clubbing that also didn’t happen.
We would, by the way, also bet big money that all those things did happen.
Partying with strippers is one thing. So is juggling multiple mistresses, retaliating against cops whose investigations could expose all that, and then lying under oath in an ill-fated attempt to protect himself. For all that and more, Kilpatrick well deserves our scorn.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Broken promises and the necessary sins
September 29, 2009 at 9:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsThe problem is that train of thought can’t just end there. Because our state is in such dire need of tax revenues, this increase on cigarettes has two faces. The first is a moral admonishment of smokers, or bad people who should pay for filling the air with their dirty poisons; the second is the underlying premise that more people should start smoking.
This is why sin taxes are a bad, shortsighted idea, and the logical underpinnings come undone. With the introduction of sin taxes, the government, for the first time, now has an actual incentive for people to continue this behavior. Public coughers now fund the public coffers.
If people claim this penalty will be used as a deterrent to smoking, why doesn’t the government tax all things it finds sinful, such as prostitution or drugs? Well, the short answer is if they did so, within five years there would be prostitution lobbyists in Washington, D.C.
Detroit Escorts: ECORSE: Secret informants, undercover surveillance used to bust …
September 29, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No Comments… It wouldn’t surprise me if people still voted for Herb,” Lesner said. “People have been hearing these stories for a long time, but he’s still in office. You either like him or you don’t. I would hope it would change people’s minds, but you never know these days.”
A criminal past
Neither Divers nor Tarockoff has been charged in connection with the alleged bribery scheme.
However, authorities did seize a 2002 Porsche 911 Cabriolet from Divers’ Romulus residence in January. The $42,000 sports car had been purchased with money obtained from the city of Ecorse, according to court records.
Divers has a lengthy criminal record, including felony drug charges, and has been arrested Downriver several times.
The latest incident was Sept. 22 when he was arrested in Ecorse for driving with a suspended license — an infraction he’d been cited for previously. At the time, he also was wanted for felony cocaine possession, for smoking on an aircraft and for soliciting a prostitute.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Kmart’s new recession play: Discounts for the unemployed
September 29, 2009 at 2:13 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsAfter a back-to-school season when parents had to put pencils and notebooks on layaway to make ends meet, the fear that a “jobless recovery” will gum up the works is very real. It’s coloring even the rosier holiday sales forecasts.
Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD), parent of the Kmart and Sears chains, has been zeroing in on customers who are tight for cash, in an effort to turn around its slipping fortunes. It has been pushing layaway for the last two holiday seasons at both chains and introduced a Christmas Club savings program to boost holiday sales.
While Kmart is probably the largest and most high-profile business to market to the unemployed, it’s a tactic that small businesses have been using for a while. Throughout the recession, reports have trickled in about local merchants in hard-hit areas offering discounts to laid-off workers. One German brothel has reportedly offered 20 percent discounts to customers who can show they’re on the dole.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Sparks Fly and Blood Spews as Kiss Alive 35 Tour Hits Cleveland
September 29, 2009 at 1:25 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsFor this tour, reports of new costumes are hype. Kiss wore the standard ’70s-era makeup. Gene Simmons added some plate mail to his torso, and Stanley took the stage in black-and-silver glam suspenders, furry chest exposed.
With under-arm wings and a wagging tongue you can see from the cheap seats, Gene Simmons is still a convincing, deep-voiced demon. He spat blood and flew (on cables) to the top of the lighting rig, where he sang “I Love It Loud.” As the band launched into “Love Gun,” Stanley the Starchild zipped on a wire from the stage to a platform in the back of the arena. Over the set, he ran through his repertoire of reliable moves — disco strut, head-scratch, butt-shake, and stripper-style hip-wiggle. His voice hit and missed, but he made most high notes and wasn’t scratchy until end — his pipes, after all, were strong enough to score him a starring role in a production of Phantom of the Opera.
Detroit Strip Clubs: John Eby: Surprising Tigers keep Detroit, Michigan hopes alive
September 28, 2009 at 2:13 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsIn the offseason Detroit acquired All-Star pitcher Edwin Jackson, clutch-hitting shortstop Adam Everett and catcher Gerald Laird (cutting down base stealers with three-fingered throws like Pudge is back). Carlos Guillen returned after a long early absence, second base is anchored by Placido Polanco, one of the most underrated players in “all of baseball,” as Rod likes to say, and $152 million first baseman Miguel Cabrera is a still-developing slugger who can also hit .330.
Magglio Ordonez’s power outage is perplexing, but at least he’s quit hitting grounders every at-bat and is spraying the ball like when he was batting champion to get his average back near .300.
Curtis Granderson is a class act, an exciting centerfielder, but his batting average had gone the opposite direction from his power numbers.
Before the SI report buoyed my spirits, the indelible image of the depths of Detroit came from a Sept. 23 report in the Free Press about its 33 strip clubs.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: ECORSE: Man at center of FBI probe locked up — again — on …
September 27, 2009 at 3:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsBy Jason Alley
ECORSE — One of the men federal authorities say bribed city officials to bilk the city out of more than $2.5 million was jailed Tuesday on unrelated charges.
Sheldon Divers, 40, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. in Ecorse during a routine traffic stop. Police said he was driving with a suspended license — an infraction he has been arrested for previously — and also was wanted on three outstanding warrants. His vehicle was towed.
Divers is wanted by the Michigan State Police’s Ypsilanti post for cocaine possession, by the Wayne County Airport Authority police for smoking on an aircraft and by the Detroit Police Department for soliciting a prostitute, police said.
He was held on a $2,700 cash bond and released from custody after posting bond Thursday.
Detroit Escorts: WYANDOTTE: Probation officer charged with soliciting sex commits …

WYANDOTTE — A 27th District Court probation officer has committed suicide after being charged with soliciting sex from an 18-year-old woman.
Late Thursday afternoon Police Chief Daniel Grant confirmed that the body of Robert Joseph Samson was found in Oscoda County. The 60-year-old Wyandotte resident died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Michigan State Police investigators said Samson had a drug-counseling business on the side, in addition to his job as a probation officer at the court that serves Wyandotte and Riverview.
Samson reportedly encouraged a woman on probation to take his drug program. It was alleged that he would waive the fee for the program if she would engage in various sex acts with him.
Detective Sgt. Kenneth Walker of the Michigan State Police Metro South Post in Taylor said the woman had met with police a week earlier and provided information that there could be “inappropriate and illegal” activity at a drug class held at the Horizon Building in Taylor.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Lawmakers attach staff raise to must-pass bill
September 26, 2009 at 12:13 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsFew House Republicans voted for the congressional-spending bill when it came up for a vote in June. The measure includes an 8 percent increase for House lawmakers’ offices, including staff salaries and travel costs, and introduces perks such as tuition reimbursement and child care to keep up with similar benefits in the Senate.
The bill does not increase salaries for lawmakers themselves. Republicans have criticized the increases as inappropriate at a time when the country is struggling with the worst economic downturn since the 1930s.
The temporary spending measure would fund government operations largely at their current levels through October 31, with a boost for veterans’ medical care and Census operations.
It would prohibit federal funds from going to ACORN, a liberal grass-roots group facing an avalanche of scorn after a conservative activist secretly videotaped employees giving tax advice to a couple who said they wanted to set up a brothel.

Detroit Escorts: Ex-madam’s business going to the dogs
September 26, 2009 at 9:36 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsNot sure how telling this stat is, but Phil Kessel was tied for 743rd in the NHL with six hits last season. To compare his physical prowess to others, Alex Ovechkin was ninth in the league with 243 hits, while Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had 80. Even Patrick (Citizen) Kane dished out 19. I’m thinking Kessel is softer than Santa Claus . . . Would I have traded two firsts and a second for Kessel? Probably . . . Three things I found interesting when reading about 271 people setting a record for a pie-throwing fight: 3. Former NHL tough guy Johnny (Pie) McKenzie was not the guest of honour; 2. John Madden showed up, thinking it was a pie-eating contest; 1. The crusts were overdone . . . Heidi Fleiss, the infamous Hollywood Madam, is opening a dog grooming salon in Las Vegas. In a related story, Michael Vick is opening a brothel . . . Janice Hough, on a Rus …
