Detroit Escorts: GOP lawyers demand investigation into acorn’s funding
September 22, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsA powerful group of GOP lawyers is demanding that government officials open an investigation to determine if the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has used government funds for illegal purposes.
And, they’re making those demands directly to House Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Rep. Jerrold Nalder, New York, who has said he would consider holding a hearing “if I ever hear any credible allegations” about the group. Now that a pair of activist filmmakers have exposed ACORN workers giving advice on how to obtain federal funds to run a brothel the Republican National Lawyers Association says the evidence is piled high enough to get that hearing. RNLA put a web video out Tuesday that replayed Mr. Nadler’s remarks.
“Prostitution. Sex trafficking. Fraud. Credible enough, Mr. Chairman?” the ad says.
Detroit Escorts: Gambler Sues Casino To Recoup Losses
September 22, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No Comments… A 61-year-old man says he wants a Detroit casino to return the $673,854 he lost at the site during a decade of regular gambling. Professional engineer Italo Mario Parise is suing the Motor City Casino for allegedly failing to stop him from gambling once he endured significant losses, The Detroit News said. Attorney Deborah Brouwer, a lawyer representing MotorCity, said in a court filing a state provision allowing gamblers to recover losses ‘would be the death knell for the Detroit casinos, none of which would be able to remain in business if forced to return gambling losses to disgruntled gamblers.’” UPI
Whatever happened to the concept of personal responsibility? Mario Parise is loser who is trying to shift the blame for his stupidity on the casino. He should look at the man in the mirror, and take concrete steps to overcome his addiction to gambling.
What’s next, will a married man sue a brothel because he wife divorced him when she found out he was a regular customer? Will the man argue that the Madame should have noticed his wedding ring, and refused him entry?

Detroit Escorts: Strict safeguards to be in place to prevent social ills of gambling
September 22, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsHo Geok Choo, MP, West Coast GRC, said: “The question is how is the casino going to implement this on the ground? Will they be doing ID checks on all patrons? Extra effort must be taken by the authorities to ensure that the list of those excluded is regularly and thoroughly maintained to prevent misunderstanding.
“Casinos overseas do not have such stringent checks. Would it be a deterrent, albeit a small one, to tourists if the checks are slow and hamper entry into the casino?”
Christopher De Souza, MP, Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, said: “It seems that the major preoccupation of the Act and this Bill is to empower the CRA (Casino Regulatory Authority) to regulate only what happens in the casino. This would be ineffective to battle negative social implications in the society at large.”
Responding, Dr Balakrishnan said strict safeguards are in place to control gambling addiction – from operators and police ensuring vice activities such as prostitution and money laundering do not occur, to entry restrictions and prohibiting casino advertising in the local mass media.

U.S. Reps, John Conyers (D-Detroit) and Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Congressional Research Service requesting an investigation of ACORN, the anti-poverty group whose employees in Baltimore recently were captured on hidden camera appearing to offer questionable advice to conservative activists posing as a prostitute and pimp.
In the letter, Conyers and Frank ask the nonpartisan research group to look into ACORN’s alleged misbehavior, including funding violations and alleged voter registration irregularities.
But they also question whether Congress’ swift move to cut the group’s funding was unconstitutional.

Detroit Escorts: Frank, Conyers come to ACORN’s aid
September 22, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsConyers and Frank now want the Congressional Research Service to look at those House and Senate funding votes for “their possible unconstitutionality and whether they could constitute an unlawful bill of attainder.”
They’ve also asked CRS for a thorough analysis of past and present investigations into ACORN, including internal investigations and any investigations by federal, state or local law enforcement agencies or by Congress, as well as for a breakdown of various charges of voter fraud that have been levied against the group.
The pair also want the report to provide an analysis of “recent ‘sting’ activity concerning ACORN,” a reference to the recent videos taken by a man and a woman posing as a prostitute and a pimp that seemingly caught ACORN employees giving advice on how to evade federal tax and housing laws.

ACORN vows to keep fighting after video controversy
Darren A. Nichols and Deb Price / The Detroit News
Detroit –The Midwest director of ACORN flew into Detroit on Wednesday, vowing to continue the group’s advocacy despite a white-hot controversy over a video showing two employees telling a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp how to cheat on taxes.
Jeff Ordower said he’s sifted through about 50 e-mails and staffers spent much of the week poring through phone messages after a video aired on Fox News that showed ACORN employees discussing how to skirt mortgage laws. The employees have been fired, and the Senate voted overwhelmingly Monday to ban the group — the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — from having access to federal money.

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Controversy is rising over ACORN, with some lawmakers calling for an investigation into the activist organization.
The controversy stems from the release of a video in which a couple of conservative activists pose as a prostitute and a pimp. They went to an ACORN office asking for advice on how to open a brothel.
The ACORN employees appear to counsel them on ways to disguise the business and hide their income.
On Wednesday, Newschannel 3 went looking for local reaction to the accusations being leveled against the group.
We heard a lot about ACORN around election time, as some of the group’s members were charged with voter fraud. Now, some lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, are saying that money going to the group needs to stop.

PANAJI: Casino employees in the state
have taken strong objection to a statement made by an anti-casino proponent
saying that the parallel drawn between them and prostitutes, pimps and drug
dealers was grossly insulting and disgusting not just to them but to their
families as well.
In a press statement, employees of off-shore and
land based casinos said: `We take strong objection to Anand Madgavkar’s
statements which appeared in local publications recently on the subject of our
protest march held in the city. He has drawn a parallel between us employees and
prostitutes, pimps, whores and drug dealers, a statement which we find grossly
insulting and disgusting, not just to us but to our families as well.’
Detroit Escorts: Agent double-o-soul
September 22, 2009 at 5:37 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsThe Davis-Davis connection produced a mature and sophisticated catalog of songs that saw Davis’ musical prowess come to full fruition. Although the thundering mid-tempo dancer “I Must Love You” was his only release as an artist on Groovesville, Davis’ songwriting put that label on the map: he penned “I Don’t Want to Lose You” for Wilson/Mancha and “Chains of Love” — a huge regional hit — for Barnes, while Darryl Banks and Johnnie Taylor cut “I’m the One Who Really Loves You” and Jackie Beavers waxed “I Need My Baby.”
As always, Davis kept a band on the side, his latest a power trio that included himself on drums, Lyman Woodard on organ and Dennis Coffey on guitar. It all started in 1966 at Detroit’s Frolic Show Bar.
“We had the best band in town,” Coffey said in a recent interview. “No one could beat us. All the pimps, all the players, all the judges — everyone would come down. The place was packed every night.”
Detroit Strip Clubs: Detroit City Council to debate crackdown on strip clubs
September 22, 2009 at 7:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDetroit City Council to debate crackdown on strip clubs
Christine MacDonald / The Detroit News
Detroit — The City Council will debate a possible crackdown on the city’s 33 topless bars today, including a ban on lap dances and VIP rooms, that one owner calls “un-American.”
The changes could keep topless dancers six feet away from customers, on stages at least 18 inches high and in rooms of at least 600 square feet. That would make tipping dancers difficult and eliminate VIP rooms. Most club employees — from disc jockeys to dishwashers — also would have to pass background checks and wouldn’t get licenses if they’ve committed specific crimes, including some drug and sexual offenses.
…
The city has spent $75,000 to get advice from Scott Bergthold, a Tennessee attorney who has worked nationwide to shut clubs down. And it has settled two federal lawsuits involving strip clubs recently for almost $670,000. The clubs say they bring in more than $3 million annually to Detroit in property taxes and fees, and employ nearly 6,700 people.
