DETROIT (AP) – The 6-year-old slaying of a Detroit exotic dancer is being turned over to a group of city and state police, and federal investigators.
Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans says the Violent Crimes Task Force may be able to find new leads into Tamara Greene’s death.
Greene is rumored to have danced in 2002 at a wild party at the Manoogian Mansion, Detroit’s official mayoral residence. State police could not determine if the party occurred. Michigan’s attorney general called it “urban legend.”
The 27-year-old Greene was killed in a 2003 drive-by shooting. A civil suit filed on behalf of her children against the city, then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and other officials claims the investigation into her death was impeded.

Six years later, task force takes on murder case of stripper Tamara ‘Strawberry’ Greene
October 02, 2009, 6:20AM
Detroit police are teaming up with state and federal agents to solve the murder of stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, shot three times in a drive by shooting six years ago.
Rumors have been circulating for years that Greene was executed after dancing at a 2002 party hosted by then-Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick at the Manoogian Mansion.
Attorney General Mike Cox investigated and said the party itself was an urban legend, but the investigation into Greene’s murder stalled, and two Detroit police officers have alleged a wide-spread cover-up.
Speaking with reporters yesterday, Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans acknowledged many feel the case was closed for political reasons.

Detroit — City police are moving the investigation of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene to a multi-jurisdictional violent crimes task force, giving it greater priority in a bid to solve the 6-year-old case.
“Most people don’t feel that it was closed because there were no other leads, but for political reasons,” Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans said Thursday. “The job of the department is to make sure the public knows we’re going to do what we do, when we need to do it. That’s the right thing to do.”

Godbold alleges he learned that Greene and an off-duty Detroit police officer who moonlighted as a stripper performed at a 2002 party at the Manoogian Mansion. It was the officer, not Greene, who was assaulted at the party and received a three-week leave of absence to recover from her injuries, the lawsuit alleges.
