Girls Night Out makes the case for pole dancing as fun workout

Pole dancing as a fitness routine became a trend around the beginning of the decade. It became so popular that when certified group fitness instructor Danielle Green opened Vixen Fitness in Detroit in 2006, she had to move to a bigger space within six months.
The business — with the motto “Fit, Fun, Fantasy” — expanded again and now takes up 1,000 square feet of studio space on Grand River Avenue and has opened a second location in Ypsilanti. But to inform those who still question whether something usually associated with strip clubs can be a legitimate exercise routine, Green is trying something new.
The Detroit studio is hosting an Ultimate Girls’ Night Out on Friday, with drinks and refreshments, women’s-interest vendors and an introduction to pole dancing as fitness.
