Detroit Strip Clubs: Detroit council candidates outline their strategies to fight crime

By law, the council can’t direct day-to-day operations of the force, but it can approve funding for equipment and programs, work with the mayor’s office and residents and push programs.
Councilwoman JoAnn Watson wants to continue a crackdown on strip clubs; Councilwoman Brenda Jones and primary winner Charles Pugh push year-round, volunteer efforts to patrol streets; Raphael Johnson and Jai-Lee Dearing say the council should improve public lighting; while Councilman Kwame Kenyatta wants better code enforcement of vacant properties.
