Three state police officers will give a deposition in the lawsuit brought by the family of slain stripper Tamara Greene
Inspector Greg Zarotney, litigation coordinator for the state police, said today there are certain questions and documents that cannot be released. But Det. Lt. Curt Schram, Det. Sgt. John Figurski and Det. Sgt. Mark Krebs will allow Birmingham Attorney Norman Yatooma to question them.
Zarotney said the officers, represented by the state Attorney Generals Office, filed motions to quash subpoenas Thursday, but the motions intent was to lay out legal groundwork for the upcoming deposition.

Greene, a stripper known as Strawberry, was shot in a drive-by killing on April 30, 2003, while parked in a Buick Skylark at West Outer Drive and Roselawn. Her slaying remains unsolved and Police Chief Warren Evans recently turned the investigation over to the multi-jurisdictional Violent Crimes Task Force.

Mora, 23, shared his story as a speaker from Homeboy Goes to Harvard Productions, a company started by a third-generation gang member who eventually earned a master’s degree from Harvard University. Various speakers with the group share their stories to raise awareness about gangs, drug addiction, self-esteem and other risks experienced by youths in their schools, homes and communities.
Mora said he was told as a kid that he wasn’t worth anything. He had no hobbies and didn’t have anyone he could talk to about daily life. He asked the students if they had hobbies and trusted adults in their lives. Most of the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders raised their hands.
He went on to say his parents came to the United States from Mexico in search of a better life. They moved from one poor neighborhood to another, where there was gang violence, prostitution, teen pregnancy and a lot of liquor stores.

Lawyer in slain stripper case accuses Cox of campaign posturing

Detroit — The lawyer for the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene says Attorney General Mike Cox was “trying to cover his gubernatorial-hopeful tail” when attorneys from Cox’s office filed objections Thursday to subpoenas filed in the family’s lawsuit against the city of Detroit.

Lawyer Norman Yatooma wants to question under oath three Michigan State Police detectives who investigated rumors of a wild stripper party at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion in 2003.

Yatooma’s comments were a reference to Cox dismissing as “urban legend” rumors of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick holding a stripper party at the mayor’s mansion in the fall of 2002. Cox’s office investigated the rumors, and a parallel state police investigation ended a few months later with no proof the party ever happened.

Officers hope to avoid testimony in exotic dancer suit
Paul Egan / The Detroit News
Detroit — Three Michigan State Police detectives filed court papers Thursday asking a federal judge to quash subpoenas ordering them to testify in a lawsuit brought by the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene.
The officers, Detective Lt. Curt Schram, Detective Sgt. John Figurski and Detective Sgt. Mark Krebs, were involved in a 2003 state police investigation into a rumored but never proven stripper party at the Manoogian Mansion mayoral residence in Detroit.
The state police investigation was shut down a few months after Attorney General Mike Cox ended his own probe and declared the party at the home of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick an “urban legend.”
Greene, who was linked to the rumored party, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Detroit on April 30, 2003. Her family is suing Kilpatrick and top city and police officials, alleging they obstructed the investigation of her still unsolved killing for political reasons.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Elect rank-and-file committees to defend jobs and living standards

Above all the working class faces a political struggle against the Obama administration and the two parties of American capitalism, the Democrats and Republicans. To make sure the wealth produced by the working class is used to meet society’s needs, not bail out the rich and wage war, the working class must take political power into its own hands.
Workers are not responsible for the collapse of the auto industry, let alone the worst crisis of American and world capitalism since the Great Depression. The ill-gotten gains of the financial aristocracy and corporate elite should be confiscated without compensation. Trillions must be allocated to create good-paying secure jobs, guarantee health care, housing and education to all, and put an end to foreclosures, evictions and utility shutoffs.
The auto industry—built up through the labor of generations of workers—cannot be left in the hands of the corporate executives and Wall Street asset strippers who have worked to destroy it. Instead, the industry must be transformed into a public utility, owned and controlled by working people, with all economic decisions, including the election of management, subjected to democratic vote.
