Detroit Strip Clubs: 36 texts identified in slain stripper case

DETROIT, Oct. 20 (UPI) — Thirty-six text messages sent on city-issued pagers may be relevant to the 2003 case of a slain Detroit stripper, federal magistrates say.
The two magistrates filed a court report Monday saying their methodical, 19-month review of more than 625,000 texts sent on city pages turned up 36 that could be considered for evidence in a lawsuit sparked by the shooting death of dancer Tamara Greene, The Detroit Free Press reported.
Magistrates Steven Whalen and Judge Michael Hluchaniuk told the U.S. District Court in Detroit that sifting through the messages — which were collected by prosecutors for a corruption case of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and other city officials — was like looking for needles in a haystack, since the vast majority of the texts were “idle chatter.”

Detroit Escorts: Nancy Sinatra knows that you only live once, and she’s not giving up

But Sinatra was no one-trick pony. She enjoyed other big successes and explored other types of music, from the romantic duet with her father “Somethin’ Stupid,” to the jazzy James Bond theme “You Only Live Twice,” to the sultry “Sugar Town.” Sinatra’s sound was impossible to classify. While one could label Franklin as a “soul” artist and Baez as a “folk” musician and the other leading distaff artists of the day as one kind of singer or another, Sinatra embraced the wide range of pop music genres blossoming during this period.
This is something that’s best evidenced by her new album “Cherry Smiles: The Rare Singles,” a collection of obscure 45 sides as a digital-only release. The wonderful 14-track anthology includes a diverse selection of material that includes everything from covers of Neil Diamond’s “Glory Road,” Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and the Charley Pride hit “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” to more outrageous titles, like the song about a prostitute (as sung by the daughter), …

Detroit Strip Clubs: WITH PDF OF ORDER 36 text messages may be relevant in dancer slaying

October 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

A lawyer for the family of slain stripper Tamara Greene may get to review 36 of more than 600,000 text messages sent on city of Detroit-issued pagers to determine whether they will shed light on her 2003 killing.
A pair of federal magistrates filed an order today in U.S. District Court in Detroit that the 19-month review of the messages is completed.
We have painstakingly reviewed 626,638 text messages, wrote Magistrates Steven Whalen and Judge Michael Hluchaniuk.
They wrote that most of the texts involved idle chatter.
A significant number of the texts center around the romantic adventures and misadventures of city employees and others, the magistrates wrote. None of these has any relevance to the issues in this case.

Kilpatrick, police officials and lawyers for the mayor and city all have denied there was ever a stripper party at the mayoral mansion and also have denied any effort to derail a probe of Greene’s death.

Two federal magistrates spent 19 months reviewing more than 625,000 text messages sent or received by City of Detroit employees during a two-year period.
They said Monday 36 of those texts are relevant to the lawsuit filed against the city by the family of Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, a stripper who was murdered in 2003 and was rumored to have previously danced during a party thrown at the Manoogian mansion by former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
That means 17,404 of every 17,405 text messages was irrelevant, but they were probably entertaining (like the movie!).
Most of the texts were “idle chatter” and “romantic adventures” of city employees, magistrates Steven Whalen and Judge Michael Hluchaniuk wrote, per the Detroit Free Press.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Manoogian could be a real moneymaker

October 20, 2009 at 8:12 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

There is a move afoot to convince Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to move into the 15-room Manoogian Mansion, which was donated to the city in 1966 and had mayoral residents until last year.
If Bing is re-elected and wants to live there, he’s as entitled to the riverfront mansion as the previous mayors were.
But if he’d rather stay in his 3,800-square-foot Shorepointe Village condo, which is right down the street from the Manoogian and overlooks the Detroit River, then the last thing we should believe is that the mansion will sit idle as the city pays $160,000 a year to maintain it.
Bing’s staff wants to install the mayor in the mansion to restore the home’s good name and make people forget the alleged urban legend that the former mayor held an alleged party with a stripper alleged to have been clobbered by the former mayor’s wife.

Detroit — Three-dozen of more than 600,000 text messages sent on city pagers could soon be reviewed by the attorney for the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene — a move that could yield more clues in her long unsolved murder.
“I’m encouraged that the magistrates found the few dozen needles in the several thousand haystacks,” Norman Yatooma said Monday. “I can only hope that it will lead us to relevant evidence.”
In an order filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Detroit, magistrate judges Steven Whalen and Michael Hluchaniuk said they had “painstakingly” completed a lengthy review of more than 626,600 text messages sent or received by city employees during a nearly two-year period.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Leads are to be revisited in hit man case

The claim has never been proved, and none of the people who allegedly hired Smothers have been charged.
“The Kentucky drug dealer is the individual who had bragged about knowing former Mayor Kilpatrick,” Detroit police spokesman John Roach said. “That was the time at which the officers felt the investigation got shut down because they weren’t allowed to go to Kentucky to talk to the drug dealer.”
Roach said Todd’s suit led Police Chief Warren Evans to call for the Violent Crimes Task Force to take a harder look at both the Smothers and Greene cases.
Greene, a stripper known as Strawberry and rumored to have danced at a never-proven Manoogian Mansion party, was shot in a drive-by killing April 30, 2003, while parked in a Buick Skylark at West Outer Drive and Roselawn.
