Detroit Strip Clubs: Lincoln Park To Approve Topless Club
November 30, 2009 at 4:36 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsLINCOLN PARK, Mich. — The decision on a liquor license for a strip club in Lincoln Park, one of the states largest, is not immediately being released.
Larry Flynts Hustlers Club has been at the center of controversy for the past seven years. Some city leaders tried to keep it from opening, and the fight between the city and the club wound up in federal court.
In October, a judge threatened the city would be fined $12,000 a day if the council did not approve the clubs liquor license, because the state had already approved it.
Opposition to the club came not only from the City Council but also from the community.
Just last week, members of the Lincoln Park Religious Association submitted nearly 1,000 letters of protest to the liquor control commission.
In October, members of churches located near the strip club protested outside the building.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Leonard Pitts Jr.: In Defense of ‘Precious’
November 30, 2009 at 8:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsShe is that invisible girl, the one we decline to see because she doesn’t look like Halle, enunciate like Condi, inspire like Oprah, doesn’t ratify our faith in the inevitability of happy endings. There are more of them than we would care to know. They are not just girls, not just poor, not just black.
They are incest victims in silent suffering, gay boys abandoned by their families, girls sold into prostitution by their mothers, 12-year-olds at home caring for 6-year-olds because nobody’s seen the 35-year-old in days. They are high school graduates who cannot read their own diplomas. They are children — “our” children — failed by families and then failed again by overburdened social agencies whose job is to take up the slack, catch them before they fall.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Does Twilight Sell Sex to Teens?
November 30, 2009 at 8:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsSIERRA HALEY: I think it’s more like that that they’re in love with love…like ‘If you die I’m gonna die.’ Oh it’s just sad.
Fellow senior Jesus Gomez is a “Twilight” hater as well. He thinks Edward the sparkling vampire is lame but he can see the appeal.
JESUS GOMEZ: I think girls just like the fact that he’s acting like a bad boy.
EDWARD: Are you afraid?
But then vampires are usually bad boys. Just check out the oversexed vampires of HBO’s adult oriented “True Blood” or the teen bloodsuckers in either “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” or the more recent TV show “The Vampire Diaries.” In the upcoming “New Moon,” sexual tensions heat up even more. Teen Tashiya Harris says Edward leaves Bella and that provides an opening for Taylor Launter’s werewolf Jacob to make his move.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Don’t scapegoat Detroit’s adult nightclubs
November 30, 2009 at 8:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsThe council, apparently bending to the will of an influential few, is willing to pursue a malicious course of action that is almost certain to drive 35 profitable Detroit businesses out of existence — along with their $3.6 million in annual taxes and fees and their 6,731 paying jobs.
With Detroit’s tax base disappearing and jobs fleeing the city, with so many other urgent issues in need of the council’s immediate attention, why is so much time and energy being wasted in an obsessive campaign to regulate legitimate businesses into bankruptcy?
Sadly, this is not uncommon. Across the country, especially as elections near, governmental bodies target adult entertainment establishments as easy prey, the low-hanging fruit they can attempt to cripple with excessive rulings — often in violation of First Amendment rights — so they can be viewed as “doing something.”
Detroit Adult Entertainment: James McAvoy: I won’t work with wife Anne-Marie in case we become ‘a target’
November 30, 2009 at 8:49 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsJames said: “I was interested in movies simply because we weren’t rich and you watch a lot of TV.
“My grandmother would take me to the cinema quite a lot. She’d take me with her and sometimes she’d sneak my sister in and then we’d sometimes just sit and watch the movie again.
“We don’t do that quite so much anymore, or if you do, they throw you out because it’s just horrible now.
“But we used to sit and watch the movie again or sneak into a showing of something else in these big cinema multiplexes.
“So I saw a lot of movies when I was a kid.
“That’s how it started really.”
At 16, James got a role as the son of a pimp in David Hayman’s 1995 film The Near Room.
Detroit Escorts: On Points: Are we repeating errors?
November 29, 2009 at 10:49 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsMy next question: Will we be making some of these same errors if we decide to “hang in” in Afghanistan? Finel and Matthew Hoh in TV news interviews seriously raise the question of the wisdom of the U.S. pursuing a military course in Afghanistan. I have seen the gross mistakes of our war in Vietnam. We do not need a repeat performance.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s corruption? I found President Barack Obama’s excuse for refusing to make a decision on troop deployment in Afghanistan while our kids are being killed to be the height of hypocrisy. The corruption of Obama’s own government dwarfs Karzai’s in both breadth and size.
Whether it is Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner’s tax evasion, Rep. Barney Frank’s lover’s operation of a drug and prostitution ring from Frank’s residence, the purchase of Mary Landrieu’s vote to open debate on the health care bill for $300 million, the corruption in Obama’s own house and among his supporters far exceeds the corruption in Afghanistan. I find it extremely galling that he can use this excuse while our kids are left exposed on the battlefield.
Detroit Escorts: Leonard Pitts: Precious is one of the invisible
November 28, 2009 at 7:49 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsPrecious is an ode to refusing to die. Precious is a girl struggling to live an unlivable life, 16 years old, illiterate, sexually abused by both parents, mother of two children (one with Down syndrome) sired by her father, physically and verbally beaten down by her monster of a mother and yet, somehow unable to give in to the idea that she is nothing and her name, nobody. She is that invisible girl, the one we decline to see because she doesn’t look like Halle, enunciate like Condi, inspire like Oprah, doesn’t ratify our faith in the inevitability of happy endings. Detroit Strip Clubs: LINCOLN PARK: State approval expected for Hustler club; could open this week
November 28, 2009 at 5:00 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsLINCOLN PARK — A controversial strip club that has been debated off and on for years could finally open this week.
The state Liquor Control Commission is expected to approve a liquor license transfer Monday for the Larry Flynt Hustler Club, at John A. Papalas and Outer Drive.
The commission held a hearing on the matter Tuesday in which members of the Lincoln Park Ministerial Association submitted about 1,000 letters of protest, asking that the $7 million club not be allowed to open.
A commission spokeswoman declined to comment on the situation, saying only that the commission speaks through its written orders. Because of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, the commission is expected to formalize its decision Monday, she said.
…
“I would rather see a manufacturing facility than another strip club,” Basham said. “I don’t think the Hustler nightclub benefits Lincoln Park or Downriver. For the revenues brought to the city, I think that will be offset by more crime and police resources.”
Detroit Escorts: Detroit City Barricades Forfeit Eliza Howell Park to Grandson
November 27, 2009 at 4:49 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsWHAT: Cheyne will demand Detroit Mayor Dave Bing finally comply with 1936 deed restrictions when his grandparents donated 138 acres to create Eliza Howell Park in the neighborhood where Cheyne grew up. If the City ever abandoned the property as a public park, the real estate would automatically revert to Howell heirs. The City ignored Ken Cheyne’s four years of requests for reversion despite allowing weeds to grow shoulder high for three years from spring to fall, and leaving huge dead tree limbs to lay where they fell. Overfilled trash barrels were never emptied from year to year until they were finally removed altogether earlier this year.
When people found out they could routinely dump yard waste along the decrepit circle road in Eliza Howell Park without anyone caring, they began dumping garbage, household trash and lots of used tires. Rats, snakes and other dangerous creatures have proliferated in the weeds and garbage.
With no street lights or police patrols, prostitutes and drug dealers have turned the former park into a no man’s land for crime within the City of Detroit.
