Detroit Strip Clubs: CAW targets US bank in severance protest
November 26, 2009 at 3:49 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsA protest by former employees of Catalina Precision Products in Detroit, Mich. drew not just workers, but their supporters, too. (Sandy Tymczak/CBC)
The CAW says Catalina Precision Products – a client of U.S.-based Comerica Bank – owes 80 workers $2.4 million in severance and vacation pay.
The autoworkers lost their jobs when Catalina shut down the Aradco and Aramco plants in Windsor in March.
The former employees have received $400,000 in severance, but the CAW contends the workers are owed more — and wants workers to receive their money before the bank does.
“We’re saying that this is an international fight back,” said Gerry Farnham, president of Local 195.
“As far as we’re concerned, these workers are being used as pawns in a game by speculators, asset strippers and liquidators.”

Investigators say teen prostitute part of murder plot
Teen charged with prostitution typical of others
(Memphis 11/25/2009) The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is contemplating additional charges against a teenage girl in a murder that took place last week in Northaven. On November 19th investigators arrested 19 year old Jeremy Stevenson for the murder of 48 year old Kerry Collins. Deputies say robbery was the motive for the killing and he was lured to Northaven by the promise of sex with a teenage prostitute.

In 2008 News Channel 3 went along as police rounded up young prostitutes, finding one as young as 14 soliciting an undercover officer. Instead of being in class, she was in front of the school selling sex on the sidewalk. Most juveniles arrested for prostitution get treatment instead of jail time.

A group of ministers is fighting the opening of a strip club in Lincoln Park.
Three Lincoln Park clergymen delivered more than a thousand letters from parishioners to the State Liquor Control Commission Wednesday.
They want the commission to deny a liquor license to Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club, which is ready to open in Lincoln Park.
Dr. Russell Bone is a minister at the Lincoln Park Church of Christ.
He says the club is close to three churches and a school bus stop.
“The sign says stop for school bus loading and unloading, and in the background you can see the Hustler club within about 300 feet,” Bone says.
Bone says clergy and parishioners worry about increased drugs and prostitution in the area.
Detroit Escorts: Lincoln Park ministers protest strip club
November 25, 2009 at 7:48 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsDimondale — Lincoln Park ministers on Tuesday gave the Liquor Control Commission an estimated 1,000 letters protesting the opening of a controversial strip club and pleaded with officials not to grant it a liquor license.
“We believe this is dangerous and destructive to the community,” said Russell Bone, pastor of the Lincoln Park Church of Christ. “We are urgently praying you don’t grant this license.”
Tuesday’s Liquor Control Commission hearing was perhaps the final chance for residents and the ministers to stop the opening of the $4.2 million Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club at John A. Papalas Drive and West Outer Drive.
Critics worry the club will bring in more crime, drugs and prostitution. Attorneys for the club say the area is zoned for such a facility and said there was no legal right to deny the liquor license.
Detroit Escorts: Leonard Pitts Jr.: ‘Precious’ stomps on stereotypes
November 25, 2009 at 7:48 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsShe is that invisible girl, the one we decline to see because she doesn’t look like Halle, enunciate like Condi, inspire like Oprah, doesn’t ratify our faith in the inevitability of happy endings. There are more of them than we would care to know. They are not just girls, not just poor, not just black.
They are incest victims in silent suffering, gay boys abandoned by their families, girls sold into prostitution by their mothers, 12-year-olds at home caring for 6-year-olds because nobody’s seen the 35-year-old in days. They are high school graduates who cannot read their own diplomas. They are children — our children — failed by families and then failed again by overburdened social agencies whose job is to take up the slack, catch them before they fall.
Detroit Escorts: Cass class
November 25, 2009 at 1:49 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsHis gift shop provides for the hotel’s residents and those from the neighborhood who have no fixed address. He sells the essentials, the items that he has learned, over time, that they need — toilet paper, snack foods, candy, salt and pepper, soap.
You can see his customers outside through the narrow basement window, sitting on the steps of the Masonic Temple across the street. They’re the ones who line up at the soup kitchen at dinner time. The ones buying and selling drugs and sex on the corners.
“They really aren’t any different than other people,” Walker says, looking outside. “We think that we’re different when we get education or get money, but we’re not any different. You go out in the nice neighborhoods, they can camouflage what they’re doing, and have parties behind closed doors where they use dope and there’s prostitution and everything else. Here, they don’t have the sophistication or the money to camouflage what they’re doing, so it’s just in the open.”
Detroit Strip Clubs: Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox denies scuttling probe of ex-Detroit mayor …
November 23, 2009 at 1:00 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsMichigan Attorney General Mike Cox denied he scuttled a 2003 joint investigation with state police of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, including an alleged cover-up of the beating of a stripper at the mayor’s official residence.
In an exclusive interview published Sunday in the Detroit Free Press, Cox said he had no authority to stop the probe ordered by Gov. Jennifer Granholm and had conducted a swift but thorough investigation.
Cox, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor, is scheduled to be deposed Dec. 11 in a lawsuit by the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara Greene.
Greene’s family is suing the city, ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and other officials. Norman Yatooma, the family’s lawyer, claims they stifled a police investigation into her 2003 shooting death. The 27-year-old Greene is rumored to have danced at a never-proven wild party at the mayor’s official Manoogian Mansion residence a few months before she was killed.
…
Cox said no one has ever come forward with any credible evidence of a wild party at the Manoogian Mansion, the beating of a stripper or a link to Greene’s shooting.

Detroit Strip Clubs: No Moon? Take a bite out of these
November 21, 2009 at 9:48 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe Aisle Seat’s review will appear on Friday (like it matters, this sucker’s gonna be so huge, it pretty much re-defines the term “critic proof”), but until then, I figured it might be fun to check out some other vampire flicks on DVD.
Just remember, Robert Pattinson faithful –– vampires, in most pieces of fiction, are meant to be SCARY. Don’t expect too many fang-bearers in the six pack listed below to discuss their feelings.
We’ll call this list the Six Great Vampire Flicks You Can Rent If New Moon Is Sold Out.
Sure, Béla Lugosi’s Dracula is a given, but let’s see if we can crack open the archives a little deeper.
1. From Dusk till Dawn (1996).
George Clooney, Harvey Keitel and Quentin Tarantino (who, as an actor, is a darn fine director) star in this blood-soaked action pic about some fugitive bank robbers who hide out in a seedy Mexican strip club, only to discover that everyone in the joint is a vampire.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Hearing on Strip Clubs Draws a Crowd

DETROIT (myFOXDetroit.com) – It’s an issue that has a funny way of drawing a crowd. A proposed crackdown on strip clubs had Detroit City Council chambers packed again on Friday. Adult entertainers and members of the religious community stood side-by-side in council chambers, but they definitely do not see eye-to-eye.
It’s a hot topic in more ways than one. A crackdown on Detroit’s 31 strip clubs had church groups and adult entertainers sparring last week outside City Council chambers.
A public hearing Friday drew another large and vocal crowd.
The council is considering banning alcohol, requiring dancers to show less skin and keep their distance from patrons. There could also be a thousand foot buffer zone imposed between adult establishments and schools, parks and churches.
Pool theme.
