Detroit Strip Clubs: Lawyer in slain dancer case wants court to make Kilpatrick provide records
December 31, 2009 at 1:48 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDetroit — A lawyer wants a judge to order former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to produce records sought in connection with a lawsuit brought by the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene.
Norman Yatooma, the lawyer for Greene’s family, said in a court filing he is still waiting for Kilpatrick to produce e-mails, correspondence and other records requested from him Nov. 18. Under federal court rules, Kilpatrick was supposed to respond by Dec. 16, Yatooma said in documents filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit late Wednesday.
“This court should enter an order compelling defendant Kilpatrick to respond … and granting plaintiffs their reasonable costs and attorney fees in bringing this motion,” Yatooma said in the court filing.
Greene, who was shot to death in Detroit on April 30, 2003, was linked to a rumored stripper party at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion in the fall of 2002.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Column: Nothing sporting about gossip as ‘news’
December 30, 2009 at 5:24 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsAccording to several reports, TMZ has registered the name “TMZSports.com” with plans to build a parallel model to its entertainment operation, which consists of rumors, tips, paparazzi photos or cell phone video slapped into so-called news that is mostly about bad behavior.
There’s plenty of that in the sports world.
Digging up dirt part
of brave new world
Consider this. The Tigers Woods scandal hasn’t got a thing to do with actual sports, yet it’s one of this year’s biggest sports stories. The Web hits were through the roof. No doubt TMZ and other outfits smell blood in the water and money in the wind.
So we rush into a new era of sports reporting — the “gotcha” approach previously reserved for the Brad Pitts and Angelina Jolies of the world. And I’ll tell you this. Catching married athletes with other women will not be hard. Snapping photos of drunken athletes will not be hard. Getting tips about ballplayers in strip clubs, hot tubs or crowded limos will not be hard.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Protection or Privacy? Plot Renews Debate
December 30, 2009 at 5:24 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsBecause of the Christmas Day bomb plot, though, Chaffetz predicted that the Senate would kill his bill. Still, he stands by his proposal. “We don’t need to overreact” when it comes to balancing security and the need for privacy, he said.
Members of the Electronic Privacy Information Center also say the machines see too much. A week before Flight 253 took off from Amsterdam, the group filed a lawsuit against the federal government seeking information about use of the scanners. It said the machines used at airports and federal courthouses were the equivalent of “digital strip searches” because they “capture images of individuals stripped naked.”
But those on the better-safe-than-sorry side say they’d happily submit to an electronic “strip tease” if it would help get them safely to their destination.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Topless bar sues Detroit over license transfer
December 27, 2009 at 7:48 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsTopless bar sues Detroit over license transfer
Christine MacDonald / The Detroit News
Detroit — The city is facing another federal lawsuit from a topless bar, after the Detroit City Council blocked the club from transferring its license to a new owner last month.
The Penthouse Club filed a lawsuit in federal court Tuesday over the 4-4 council vote on Nov. 20, which halted the license transfer. The club’s request had been pending since March 2007.
…
The new council, which will hold its first meeting Jan. 5, could consider a broader strip club crackdown next year, which could include a ban on lap dances and VIP rooms. Topless dancers would have to stay 6 feet away from customers, on stages at least 18 inches high and in rooms of at least 600 square feet.
Detroit Escorts: Press digest
December 26, 2009 at 1:49 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsL’Avvenire quotes the Pontiff in his homily to more than 10,000 people, urging the faithful to rediscover the simplicity of the nativity message. At noon today, the Pope delivers his “Urbi et Orbi” message to the city and the world.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reports thousands of pilgrims and dignitaries crowded into Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity for a Christmas Mass, where Latin Patriarch Fuad al-Tuwal urged visitors to return home bearing a message of peace for the Holy Land.
Il Mattino says a bloody-faced Silvio Berlusconi, Pope Benedict XVI with his arm in a sling and pop star Michael Jackson are among the crop of new nativity scene figurines on sale in Naples this year. On sale are also statuettes of escort girl Patrizia D’Addario, who claimed to have been paid to have sex with Berlusconi, Naples schoolgirl Noemi Letizia, whose friendship with the premier caused his wife Veronica Lario to accuse him of consorting with minors and ask for a divorce, and Lario herself.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Tiger Woods To ‘Regain Image’ By Doing ‘The Hangover’ Sequel?
December 26, 2009 at 4:37 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsPhillips said, “We are going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one…Yeah help him regain his image.” They say comedy is the best cure for anything, even scandals. “Mike (Tyson) loved doing the Hangover because he loved f**king with the image people had of him. He knew we were not making fun of him but of the image people projected on him.”Although Philips may have been joking, Justin Bartha (Doug in the movie) says there is a possibility it can happen. “If Todd says it thus will happen…might happen, you never know. I’m going to talk to him about it.”"That would be so hilarious. Sounds brilliant,” gushed actress Heather Graham But she did confess that she was surprised to hear about Tiger’s scandalous ways. “Yeah it’s so weird, he seemed so clean cut in all his pictures.”
Yep, and now all he needs to do to get that image back is appear in a bachelor party gone bad film full of drugs, alcohol, strippers, and prostitutes.
Detroit Escorts: Former hoops star bounces back with plan to help youth
December 25, 2009 at 10:49 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsHe spends his days trying to keep Detroit children off the streets. He co-founded the Motor City Youth Initiative, which meets Saturday afternoons at the Faith Lutheran church annex. During peak weekends, 80-100 at-risk inner-city children learn about substance-abuse prevention, computers and basketball.
“I’m teaching them something I missed,” Wagner said. “You got to be prepared, man, because you never know when opportunity will be there. I was not prepared.”
The meetings are like doses of preventive medicine.
“We got a lot of young people who get caught up and don’t even know,” said Charles White, director of the MCYI.
‘The Dribbler’
Wagner was not prepared for the fast life that engulfed him. As a youth, he hung around an east-side pool hall on Hastings Street owned by his father, Ennis.
When he was 12, Wagner walked past hustlers and prostitutes. But he didn’t understand what they were because he was “a square,” he says, and perhaps a bit naïve.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Kids in the Hall
December 23, 2009 at 3:24 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDickens said he worked for Barack Obama in 2008, the John Kerry campaign in 2004 and both campaigns for Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Dickens was rather miffed that a reporter brought up the whole Kilpatrick thing, in fact.
A survey conducted in November by the Lansing-based Rossman Group, The Perricone Group and Denno-Noor Research looked at how negative characteristics could harm gubernatorial hopefuls. (Bernero’s name was not included in the survey.) The survey found that Attorney General Mike Cox had the most negative characteristic because of accusations that he covered up an investigation into the alleged beating of a stripper at that Manoogian Mansion “urban legend” party. Dickens hasn’t been associated with Kilpatrick in years (nor has he been linked in any way to the hip-hop mayor’s legal troubles), and Bernero is even further removed from the situation — but Kilpatrick’s name is clearly green poison.

Detroit Strip Clubs: OFF THE BEAT: Police news from around Downriver
December 23, 2009 at 8:36 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsPolice said they were called on a report that a woman appeared to be unconscious in a women’s restroom at the club, 980 John A. Papalas Drive, at about 11 p.m.
A club employee said the woman, 23, was not a server at the club. Neither the club manager nor police would confirm whether the woman is a dancer there.
According to police, the woman’s friend told police that she was in the restroom.
The woman was taken to Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn. The report said no further police action was “taken/needed.”
Paula Rivera-Kerr, an Oakwood spokeswoman, said yesterday that no information was available on the woman. Rivera-Kerr said that meant she either was using an alias or has been discharged.
The controversial strip club opened Dec. 8 after a series of legal go-rounds with the city.
Detroit Escorts: Copenhagen Summit ends – delegates deplete world’s oxygen supply
December 21, 2009 at 4:49 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsUnnamed European Commission spokesman: “It was the only deal available in Copenhagen.”
Now, is this guy talking about a climate agreement to ensure Planet Earth doesn’t lurch into a Greenhouse hell, or is he talking about engaging an escort service? I couldn’t tell. But what is clear is that the Copenhagen Summit failed miserably to define achievable action on Climate Change. And if that’s the case, then “Copenhagen ‘09” may well be synonymous one day with “Munich ’38.” We’re not quite at the Defcon-1 Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome stage yet, but it’s interesting to note that the only substantial thing which Copenhagen produced was another carbon footprint. Is this a harbinger of future exercises to thwart Global Warming? Is every conference going to queasily remind us of Neville Chamberlain waving a toothless agreement while declaring unmitigated success?
