Detroit Strip Clubs: LINCOLN PARK: Hustler club’s opening night ‘exceeded expectations’
December 12, 2009 at 2:12 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsLINCOLN PARK — While there was much hype over the grand opening of a controversial strip club Tuesday night, the only excitement that occurred took place inside once the doors were open and the tops were dropped.
Police officers were ordered to work overtime in anticipation of a large 7 p.m. protest outside the Larry Flynt Hustler Club at John A. Papalas and Outer drives.
However, only one man braved the cold to voice his displeasure of women baring their breasts in the $7 million club.

While Miller said he visits strip clubs about five times a year, he’s already decided where he’ll be spending his money during those visits.
…
While the city and the strip club have battled in court over the last couple of years, Duchane said, he’s confident that all issues have been worked out and doesn’t expect problems.

Cox deposition in stripper lawsuit gets heated
Paul Egan / The Detroit News
Detroit — Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox spent Friday answering questions under oath in connection with a federal lawsuit brought against Detroit officials by the family of a slain exotic dancer.
But he still isn’t finished testifying in the case.
Friday’s daylong questioning of Michigan’s top law enforcement official and gubernatorial hopeful — which has no recent precedent — apparently grew heated, and Chief U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen had to be called on to resolve disputes.
Both Cox and Norman Yatooma, the lawyer for the dancer’s family, said as they left the federal courthouse shortly after 5 p.m. that they need to schedule a date to complete the deposition. That’s expected to happen next week.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: The tragedy of Detroit: The saddest story anywhere
December 12, 2009 at 6:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsAnd while I’m sure many of my regular readers will jump on this as an example of liberalism run wild, I have to tell you that this is not strictly an ideological story. It is true that Democrats have run Detroit forever, and there’s no doubt in my mind that the classic liberal view of government as the essential master to be served has helped spawn the fiefdoms and corruption that characterize Detroit.
But that is only part of the story, and I’m not even sure it’s one of the biggest parts. Today’s Detroit was created by generations of leaders who were guilty of far worse than misguided ideology. They were guilty of complete and utter disregard for the best interests of the citizenry. And when far too many of your citizens are perfectly happy to sit back and let it happen while destroying themselves via drugs, crime, prostitution and any number of other societal pathologies, you have a toxic combination that cannot be primarily pinned on ideology.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Police tout data approach to cutting crime
December 12, 2009 at 6:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsDetroit’s violent crime task force targeted a neighborhood near Seven Mile and Gratiot after charting violent crimes on a map of the city and identifying the most violent area that was not already being addressed by a federal task force, interim U.S. Attorney Terrence Berg said at a news conference.
One significant result is a grand jury indictment unsealed this week that charges nine defendants with crimes including weapons offenses and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, heroin and marijuana, Berg said.
Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans said the approach involves shocking an area with three to four days of intense enforcement and arrests for drug dealing, crimes of violence, prostitution and other offenses. Questioning of those defendants produces intelligence which the federal task force develops into longer-term investigations, such as the one that led to this week’s indictment, Evans said.
