Detroit Adult Entertainment: Some Focus on the Modern Slave Trade During MLK Day

January 19, 2010 at 10:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

Almost 47 years have passed since Martin Luther King, Jr. made his famous “I have a dream” speech. The United states and the world have made major strides since that time, but human trafficking still has millions enslaved today.
Chair of the Flathead Valley Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration Reverend Darryl Kistler says, “27 million is almost a number that is beyond anything we can think about. That would be taking every person in Montana and multiplying us by 27 and that’s how many people are involved or enslaved by human trafficking.”
According to the U.S. State Department, trafficking exists in every single U.S. state and around the globe. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are brought to the U.S. every single year under false pretences. Many are forced into prostitution, manual labor, and other services.

RALPH BAILEY: Martin Luther King’s courage remains unmatched

It is said that prostitutes and old buildings gain respectability after a period of time but it seems living legends become posthumous targets of ridicule and scrutiny and no one’s character has suffered more than that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., arguably the most courageous revolutionary this republic has ever seen.
While some of my radio brethren question King’s achievements, insisting we need no national holiday for the fallen minister, King’s undying spirit, commitment to nonviolence and unwavering drive for equal rights in the face of certain assassination cannot be surpassed.
King catapulted to national prominence in the mid-1950s after becoming president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, a group of ministers, church goers and civil rights seekers that cooked up the Rosa Parks-spurred Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Investing in Women the Right Thing to Do, Clinton Says

January 19, 2010 at 10:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

Clinton cited a story from Uganda, where the U.S. Agency for International Development ( USAID ) is working with the International Planned Parenthood Federation to provide reproductive health services, education and skills training to low-income women.
Among their clients are a group of teenage girls who call themselves the Moonlight Stars. Their parents are dead, leaving them the sole providers for their younger brothers and sisters. Without any other options, they were working as prostitutes. Through this USAID-funded program, they gained access to condoms and comprehensive sex education to protect themselves from disease and pregnancy. They also began taking classes in sewing and knitting and other kinds of skills that could be used to help support their siblings without endangering their physical or emotional well-being. And thanks to this job training and the support that accompanied it, many of the Moonlight Stars have left prostitution behind and embarked on a new path of opportunity for themselves and their families.

Jigsaw accused ‘planned to cash in on victim’s murder’
By Court Reporter
A MAN and his prostitute girlfriend murdered their landlord and scattered his remains across Hertfordshire and Leicestershire in a calculated bid to steal his assets, according to prosecutors at the couple’s trial.
It was alleged at St Albans Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday, January 13) that Stephen Marshall, 38, and Sarah Bush, 21, stabbed Jeffrey Howe to death at his home in Southgate, north London, before cutting up and dumping the body at several remote sites – including Barwick, near Much Hadham, and Puckeridge.
But Marshall, of Borehamwood, and Bush, of Southgate, plead not guilty to murder. Marshall admits dismembering the body, dumping the remains and misleading police about Mr Howe’s whereabouts, but Bush denies these charges.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Hope, inspiration and victory

Crack cocaine became Hayes’ drug of choice, sending her in a vicious downward spiral that forced her to turn to prostitution to maintain her habit. “Destruction began to accelerate, degradation began to accelerate,” she says of the time in her life. “I lost all sense of decency. I did all types of things I thought I would never do.”
For 14 years, Hayes remained in that cycle, but says, “I did get out, by the grace of God. Not a lot that I did, but it was his grace that helped maneuver me and get me out.”

“I was two years clean then,” Hayes shares, “and I just could not imagine, after all I’ve been though, … after I’ve jumped over this hurdle and that hurdle – crack cocaine addiction, prostitution, almost being killed – I was able to overcome and get out, and now you hand me this piece of paper and tell me that death has caught you right here.”

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Big in Japan

… Motoring Times’ finds out that substance over form, speed over sheen define the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon
CHIBA, Japan: In a land of outlandish street fashion and bizarre anime characters, it’s surprising to find out that the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon—held from January 15 to 17—was a study in restraint, where tasteful modifications and substantive, performance enhancing tuning were the norm rather than the exception in the local automotive culture. American-style Pimp My Ride, the Japanese car spectacle simply is not.
Of course, a smattering of cars sporting jackknife doors and blinged-out paintjobs and gaudy airbrushed artworks were around, sharing space with the usual array of winged horrors and bellowing boomboxes. But the vast majority wore genuine enhancements that served as proofs that if the auto biz were any less focused on bottom-line profits and expanding customer bases, the results could be cars that are intoxicating to drive, thrilling to look at and hopelessly easy to love.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Celebrating (HIV) positive lives

January 19, 2010 at 10:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

Bill Jones is a New York-based choreographer, head of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and the creator of “Fondly Do We Hope, Fervently Do We Pray,” a multimedia dance performance honoring the life and work of Abraham Lincoln that is coming to Ann Arbor’s Power Center Jan. 22 and 23. Jones, who was diagnosed with HIV and lost his partner, Zane, to AIDS in the late 1980s, spoke out about the epidemic in his 1994 performance “Still/Here,” complete with controversial dancers dressed as red blood platelets.
In another part the country is Rosie Hayes, a Michigan-raised ex-drug addict and sex worker who fought to escape her destructive lifestyle, only to come out with an HIV-positive diagnosis. Instead of retreating to her past ways, or even remaining silent, Hayes now tells her story across the nation to various groups, spreading inspiration and hope that there can be life after an HIV diagnosis.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: MSNBC slimes the intelligence community by pushing kooky conspiracy theory

January 19, 2010 at 10:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

The airtime between Wolffe’s regurgitation of White House talking points and MSNBC’s character assassination of the intelligence community was filled with, surprise!, Bush bashing. Somehow the release of Gitmo prisoners, which the left had pursued with the persistence–and the lack of sense–of a child holding his breath, was Bush’s fault. That so many of the released Gitmo prisoners were from Yemen was also, inexplicably, Bush’s fault.
(MEMO TO COUNTDOWN PRODUCERS: The previous administration is just that … previous. You’ve become a one-trick-pony show whose pony done died.)
So far, no apology has been forthcoming from either the White House or Wolffe to the thousands of hard-working professionals they slandered, or to the families of those in the intelligence community who have died in the nation’s defense.
As for MSNBC, it has sunk to yet another nadir in its eagerness to pimp Obama’s political agenda, its reportage now the stuff you scrape off shoes.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Judge gives city, Kilpatrick 7 days to turn over slain dancer’s records

January 19, 2010 at 6:36 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

Chief U.S. District Judge Gerald E. Rosen has given the city and former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick seven days to turn over records sought in connection with the lawsuit brought by the family of Tamara “Strawberry” Greene.
“In light of the disturbing trend … that at least certain of the defendants appear to be consistently failing to provide timely responses to discovery requests … the court cautions the parties and their counsel that any further failures to provide timely and appropriate responses to discovery requests will be met with escalating rounds of sanctions, up to an including dismissal of claims or the entry of judgment,” Rosen said in an order issued late Friday.
The judge granted three “motions to compel” production of certain records filed by Norman Yatooma, the Birmingham lawyer representing Greene’s family.
Greene was killed in a drive-by shooting in Detroit on April 30, 2003.
She had been linked to a rumored stripper party at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion in the fall of 2002.
