Detroit Escorts: Riddle jurors go home for the day
February 12, 2010 at 4:49 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsThe Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution sets out the rights of defendants in criminal prosecutions.
Riddle, 63, has pleaded not guilty to a seven-count indictment that accused him of conspiracy, extortion, and lying to the FBI. Prosecutors allege he teamed up with former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers to shake down businesses with matters before the Detroit City Council or the General Retirement System, where Conyers sat as a trustee.
Riddle, who served as chief of staff to Conyers in 2006 and 2007, could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
“The Twitter speaks for itself,” Riddle said at the courthouse this morning when asked to elaborate on his postings.
In closing arguments Monday, prosecutors described Riddle as “a political pimp,” while defense attorney Edward Wishnow said Riddle was a part-time employee of Conyers who had legitimate consulting deals on the side.
Detroit Escorts: Riddle jury ends deliberations for the day
February 12, 2010 at 4:48 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsRiddle, 63, a political consultant and one-time aide to Conyers, is charged in a seven-count indictment with felonies that include conspiracy, extortion and lying to the FBI.
In seven days of testimony before a jury and Judge Cohn, the trial heard evidence that Riddle and Conyers teamed up to shake down businesses with matters before the City Council or Detroit’s General Retirement System, where Conyers sat as a trustee.
Riddle’s former live-in companion, ex-state Rep. Mary Waters, sat in the front row of the packed courtroom for the closing arguments.
Riddle’s bond includes a no-contact clause with Waters. He is accused of a felonious assault against Waters, which involved pulling a shotgun after she allegedly came home to discover him in bed with another woman shortly before Christmas.
In closing arguments today Assistant U.S. Attorney David Gardey said Riddle is “a political pimp and he sold Monica Conyers’ vote to the highest bidder.”
Detroit Strip Clubs: The World Comes To Vancouver
February 12, 2010 at 1:48 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsPHILADELPHIA (BASN) — Vancouver , British Columbia, Canada is one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Located in the Pacific Northwest somewhere above the 48th parallel, it is a beautiful combination of contrasts. You have beaches and mountains within walking distance of each other, and a good mix of urban and rural culture within its Lower Mainland area.
The downtown area is vibrant, with enough amusements to get you in trouble (smile). You can shop ’til you drop along Robson Street, or hit some of the clubs and pubs in Gastown and along Granville Street.
Anyone who lived in the area during the 1990s all the way down to Portland, Oregon knew about the Warehouse and Shampers, one of the best night clubs anywhere before Asian investors turned it into a country & western bar; it was alleged they felt too many Black men concentrated in one space wouldn’t be good for the kind of business they wanted to attract.
The world-famous CecilHotel, whose marquee once proudly boasted their strippers ” have done more for pussy than kitty litter” still sits at the foot of the GranvilleStreetBridge.

DETROIT — Detroit City Council is poised to reverse new strip club rules in an effort to keep money and jobs in the city.
The Council took a straw vote Thursday to remove a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol inside adult entertainment clubs, a requirement that dancers wear pasties, and a requirement that dancers stay at least six feet from patrons.
There are about 1,600 employees that currently work in the adult entertainment business in the city of Detroit. Thats not just dancers.
There are a lot of people employed there, said councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins.
The council also introduced a zoning ordinance that would force new clubs to open in special industrial areas and stay 1,000 feet from schools, parks and churches.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Ex-candidate Mohamed Chams seeks Windsor ward 2 seat
February 12, 2010 at 1:12 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments… That’s what led me to Ward 2,” said Chams, a South Windsor resident. “I picked the area that I felt would be the most challenging…. That’s where the work really needs to be done.”
Chams said his plan is to propose a bylaw that would force property owners to either demolish or improve vacant homes.
Chams also isn’t shy about criticizing the city’s current administration. An equation on his website reads: “Bad administrative decisions = unnecessary legal fees = unnecessary property tax increases.”
In March 2008, Chams was involved in a dispute with Windsor police over a property he owned on Goyeau Street that was leased to a massage parlour.
But Chams said he’s not worried about past controversies tainting his chances at the Ward 2 councillor seat.
“I’ve been fighting to reduce the number of (massage parlour) licences,” he said.
