On his Twitter account, Riddle suggests one juror may be in his corner. He said, “The power of one is mighty indeed!”
Colorful Testimony Heard In Riddle Trial
During the course of the trial, federal prosecutors presented evidence, including more than 20,000 taped conversations between Riddle, Conyers and other people implicated in the corruption scandal.
The brother of a man already convicted in the Synagro bribery scandal testified that he met with Riddle and Conyers at least five times on behalf of his brother, Rayford Jackson, and passed off money to them.
A taped played in court showed that Jackson gave Conyers an envelope containing bribe money the same day the council passed the sludge deal.
A strip club executive testified last week that Riddle was wearing a gravy-stained track suit when he sought $25,000 in 2006 to help pass a license for a topless club in Detroit.

Pugh likens crackdown on strip clubs, racial discrimination

Detroit –City Council President Charles Pugh today likened passing ordinances to shut down strip clubs to laws that segregated blacks during an interview on a religious radio station.
Speaking to WQLV-AM 1500 host Paul Edwards hours after a contentious debate about a crackdown on Detroit’s 33 clubs, Pugh said the city can’t pass regulations that “unduly target” strip clubs and twice referred to the civil-rights struggle to make his point.

Pugh challenged Winans to join him to work with the clubs to better patrol crime outside of them, but Winans said he’d only help if Pugh returns the alcohol ban and pasties rule. He followed by saying that the strip club owners don’t live in the city and their children don’t have to walk by the businesses.

Controversy, Sniping Over Proposed Detroit Strip Club Rules

A debate over proposed changes to Detroit’s strip club zoning rules got heated at City Council, and provoked a confrontation between Council President Charles Pugh and a popular Minister.
The previous Detroit City Council approved draft zoning rules that put more restrictions on the city’s strip clubs. The current Council kept some of those restrictions. But it removed some controversial ones including a ban on alcohol sales and distance requirements between dancers and patrons.
That upset some residents and clergy, including Pastor and gospel star Marvin Winans.
After Winans argued against the loosened restrictions, Council President Charles Pugh asked him if he lived in Detroit. Winans–who lives in a Detroit suburb–got angry.
“I have a church in the city, I have a school in the city, I own property in the city,” Winans said. “I am part of the city.”

MY SHARONA HIT SINGER LOSES BATTLE WITH CANCER
Tuesday February 16,2010
TRIBUTES have been paid to Doug Fieger, the frontman of The Knack, who has died at the age of 57.
The American singer, most famous for the 1979 hit My Sharona, died on Sunday after a long battle with cancer. Originally from Detroit, he formed The Knack in Los Angeles in 1978 and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip clubs.
A year later he co-wrote and sang lead vocals on My Sharona, which became one of the biggest-selling pop songs of all time, running to more than a million copies.
Fieger said it had been inspired by a former girlfriend. I had never met a girl like her, ever, he said in a 1994 interview.
She induced madness. She was a very powerful presence and had an insouciance that wouldnt quit.
