Detroit Strip Clubs: Jurors attack lone Black woman for holding out in Riddle case
February 19, 2010 at 5:25 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDespite Cohns instructions, the jury foreman Matt LeFevre told reporters that the lone Black juror held out for acquittal. A woman who appears to be in her 30s, she is a flight attendant. Lefevre claimed she refused to deliberate at all, and said he wanted Riddle re-tried.
Another juror claimed she said sarcastically, Lets hang the Black man.
Instead, despite pressure from 11 jurors not of her race, which some jurors said included screaming fights, the flight attendant hung the jury.
She was not available for comment herself, but during the trial, she demonstrated cynicism about the governments case.
During testimony against Riddle by Joe Hall, a manager of the national Déjà Vu strip club chain, she requested to ask a question. Cohn at first refused, but on the following day he allowed jurors to send written questions to him. He then read three questions to Hall, one of which was, Have you ever danced in a strip club?

Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh says an ongoing battle over the city’s strip clubs has gotten “emotional,” and led to misperceptions in the community.
Pugh went door-to-door in a neighborhood on the city’s east side to talk with residents about a local strip club.
He says a heated debate over the Council’s efforts to develop rules for new strip clubs has been clouded by emotion. Many Pastors and some residents have objected to the Council’s removal of certain draft rules, including a ban on alcohol sales in clubs.
But Pugh says it’s more important to manage what goes on outside clubs than inside. He adds Council has to act on these rules, before a current moratorium on new clubs expires next month.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Pugh crashes city car, delays reporting it
February 19, 2010 at 5:25 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsPhotos provided by the city show that the car has two flat tires, but Pugh told police he drove the vehicle home after the accident and had it towed the next day. The car also has a cracked bumper, extensive damage to the driver’s and passenger’s sides and a missing rearview mirror and tire hubcap.
Pugh, 38, maintained this morning that he did nothing wrong and hadnt been drinking when he tried to avoid being hit by a fast-moving car with bright lights coming up behind him as he exited I-75 at Mack.
I reported it the next day to the police, he said as he and staff began canvassing around 7 Mile and Van Dyke today to talk to residents about the impact of strip clubs on their neighborhoods.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Pugh visits neighborhood to talk about strip clubs

Pugh visited the neighborhood in the first of three such trips to areas near strip clubs. The council is pondering what to do about such businesses because a moratorium on the clubs expires March 31.
…
“We come here because I want to hear from residents who live near strip clubs,” Pugh said. “We are here to listen. This is an issue that has urgency.”
A group led by the Rev. Marvin Winans, pastor of Perfecting Church, wants the council to force dancers to wear pasties, and ban alcohol, lap dances and VIP rooms. The council is looking at banning VIP rooms, requiring all strip club employees to be licensed and for dancers to perform on stage.
…
Pugh said he is also looking at incentives strip club owners can be offered to move out of residential areas and into industrial ones, and a cap on how many clubs can operate in the city.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Charles Pugh on crash reported 3 days later: ‘If we violated a policy it was …
February 19, 2010 at 10:36 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsSources tell Fox 2 Pugh it is against city policy to not immediately report a crash involving a city-owned vehicle, and others have suggested he may have violated state law regarding damage to road signs. Detroit police are investigating the crash.
But Pugh, who typically has a driver, said he did not think he was doing anything wrong by driving home.
“So… if we violated a policy it was unbeknownst to me,” he told Fox 2. “I don’t drink and drive. I had not been drinking, and I went home because… I was not going to sit on Mack and 75 at… a quarter to ten at night and wait on the police.”
It’s been a tough week for Pugh, who also has faced repeated criticism from Rev. Marvin Winans over a reworked strip club proposal.

…
This Monday, there’ll be a veritable million strippers march — well dozens, anyway — more ecdysiasts than have been seen in downtown Detroit since the old days of the Stone Burlesk on Woodward, at a 3 p.m. public hearing on strip clubs in the 13th floor auditorium of the Coleman A. Young municipal building (set your watch, boys).
You won’t see Bouncing, Beautiful Babbette , Machine Gun Kelly or the Golden Girl from the Golden West from the old Stone — we presume they’re in the strippers‘ retirement home — but there will be a large posse of dancers in attendance. Some of the proposals being argued: that strippers must stay on the stage (no lap dances) and that no more clubs be allowed on Eight Mile.
Pool theme.
