A woman who tried to steal a customer’s car was arraigned in 38th district court yesterday on several felony charges, one of which could land her in prison for life.
The charges arose from an incident at the Eastpointe Motel Monday night when following a liason with a New Baltimore man, convicted prostitute Kelly Messenger stole the man’s car keys and drove away. In an effort to stop her Harvey Voskupi, 47, leaped onto the hood of the vehicle. He managed to hang on for several blocks before falling off, according to police.
Voskupi was severely injured, and was listed in critical condition at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Yet Messenger wasn’t half done. She led police on two separate chases described as ‘high speed’ and ‘dangerous’ before losing control and crashing into a post office.

Eastpointe — A 24-year-old woman is facing up to life in prison after police say she stole a New Baltimore man’s keys and drove off with him clinging to the hood of his car after a Monday night rendezvous at an Eastpointe motel.
Kelly Jane Messenger of Burton, near Flint, was arraigned in Eastpointe District Court today on four felony charges including attempted murder, automobile theft and two counts of fleeing and eluding police.
Authorities say Messenger, who has previously been convicted of prostitution, and the 47-year-old man first met in Detroit before traveling to the Imperial Motel on Monday.
Eastpointe Police Lt. Scott Bourgeois said Messenger later exited the room the pair had occupied with the man’s keys and drove off in his car around 6:30 p.m.

Watch: Woman Facing Felony Charges For Police Chase
Police said Kelly Messenger was a prostitute who stole her customer’s vehicle, which is what led police on the first chase Monday evening.
Police said the bizarre chain of events began when Eastpointe police were responding to a report of an attempted homicide, and that’s when the first chase started at about 7 p.m. Monday.
An Eastpointe police officer arriving to the scene said he spotted a white Toyota Camry speeding down Gratiot Avenue, with a man holding onto the roof.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Detroit City Workers Banned From Wearing Perfumes

Now, I can understand both sides of the argument.  There’s something to be said for smelling your best, but at the same time there’s something to be said for not reeking of cheap perfume like some sort of French prostitute.  There has to be a happy medium between not stinking of BO and not stinking of perfume, even if some people are unable to find it.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Detroit faces prospect of downsizing

March 18, 2010 at 9:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

At the core of this discussion: The robust Detroit of the 1950s is gone … and it isn’t coming back. Half the population from that era is gone. And, of the fewer than 900,000 people who remain, many live below the poverty level and in the cross-hairs of urban violence.
For those who don’t see the worst parts of the city, the situation is stunning. Houses are valued at $2,000. Many were built about 1900 and have been abandoned for years — a flight that started with the riots of 1967 and continued through the drug wars. Now there are many Detroit blocks with only one or two occupied homes.
The concept of downsizing metropolitan areas is not new. Itprimarily is a discussion that hastaken place in other aging, rust-belt industrial cities — Youngstown, Flint, Toledo. Because of its size, Detroit provides some unique differences, but the problems are the same.
The reality is Detroit needs new, aggressive, dynamic changes. Piecework solutions — tearing down a drughouse here and a house of prostitution there — isn’t going to do it.

Valet Dies After Being Run Over
Witnesses: Customer Deliberately Attacked Valet
POSTED: Wednesday, March 17, 2010
UPDATED: 7:06 pm EDT March 17,2010
DETROIT — Detroit police are looking for the driver who police said ran over a valet attendant outside an adult entertainment club.
The incident happened Sunday morning outside Cheetahs on West Eight Mile Road.
Police said 36-year-old Jere Wagner was deliberately run over and then attacked by a club customer.
I dont understand how you can run somebody over and get out of the car and continue to beat them, said Ashleigh Adkins, Wagners ex-girlfriend. I mean, did the guy feel bad?
Police said Wagner reportedly got into an argument with the customer, who did not want to wait in line to get his car keys.
Witnesses told police the two men exchanged words for a short time, but that the customer was eventually given his keys.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Detroit council members launch anti-violence effort

March 18, 2010 at 9:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

No arrests have been made as of this afternoon, Detroit police said. Thursday night’s incident is the latest fatal shooting in which young children were present. Last week, young children were in homes on the city’s northwest side where two separate double homicides occurred in the same day.
In both incidents, young children reported to relatives or authorities that their mothers had been killed.
“It definitely frustrates you,” added Tate about the escalating violence. “It’s important for the community to see their leadership step up and show their faces and show their anger, and hopefully we can galvanize this community to also reciprocate that anger.”
Jenkins agreed.
“I’d like to see the same kind of outrage that everybody saw regarding adult business in the city of Detroit… the same kind of outrage we saw regarding Cobo Hall,” Jenkins said. “We need to be that outraged over our babies because Cobo and businesses don’t matter in the city if we can’t save our children. We can’t do this alone.”

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Detroit strip club hearing draws pastors, dancers

March 18, 2010 at 9:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

DETROIT (AP) – Hundreds of strip club opponents and a smaller number of employees and other supporters of the clubs have packed a Detroit City Council hearing on whether to tighten adult business regulations.
A crowd overflowed Monday from the 550-seat council auditorium. Most speakers called for stricter limits on the clubs, such as banning alcohol sales.
A proposal before the council would ban VIP rooms and physical contact between customers and dancers and require licensing of employees. A vote could come Tuesday.
Gospel music legend and minister Marvin Winans says the council should respond to the public’s demand for more restrictions.
All Stars club worker Kweli Buffalo says the clubs provide needed employment in a tight economy.

Attorney for Kwame Kilpatrick wants off case; should city pay his $20,000 bill?
March 18, 2010, 6:33AM
AP File PhotoEx-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick talks to attorney James Thomas.
Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick managed to make his regularly-scheduled restitution payment on time this month, but apparently he hasn’t been paying one of his lawyers.
WDIV reports attorney James Thomas on Wednesday filed a motion to withdraw as Kilpatrick’s defense counsel in the lawsuit filed by the family of slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene.
Kilpatrick spokesman Mike Paul tells the Detroit Free Press Thomas is owed more than $20,000 for his work on the case.
Greene’s family alleges city leaders — including Kilpatrick — conspired to block the investigation of her 2003 murder, which remains unsolved. Rumors have swirled for years that Greene danced at a party thrown by Kilpatrick months before her death.
