DETROIT — Exotic dancers may have to pay fees to renew their licenses to work in Detroit, if the Detroit police chief gets his way.
Chief Warren Evans has asked the city council to make it a requirement that “sexually oriented business employees” pay for an application and renewal fee for a license to work in the city.
The proposed ordinance comes months after the Detroit City Council approved new strip club rules, which essentially eliminates private rooms, requires dancers to perform on a 18-inch stage and be licensed to work in legitimate strip clubs.
In a proposal submitted to council in March, Evans has asked that exotic dancers and other people working in the business pay a $150 fee to the Detroit Police Department for the issuance and renewal of a sexually oriented business employee license.
