Detroit Escorts: Census Bureau changes hiring process after sex offender hired

The New Jersey sex offender was hired and began working as an enumerator before his fingerprint check was complete. In Indiana, however, a Census taker was allegedly involved in a burglary and rape even though he had passed the background check. He had no criminal history.
“Also, starting immediately, whenever new information is obtained about criminal activities of our staff, immediate action will be taken,” Groves said.
Conservative activist James O’Keefe, best known for an undercover video showing ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) counselors appearing to encourage him to hide a prostitution venture to get housing money, released another video this week. This one shows O’Keefe at two New Jersey Census offices where he was hired and took a two-day training course. O’Keefe quit after working 16 hours but was paid for 19.5 hours. The video also shows supervisors giving 70-minute paid lunch breaks — 40 minutes longer than allotted.

Even at 40 years like Gores, splits not so rare
By JOCELYN NOVECK
The Associated Press
NEW YORK — There was no salacious sex scandal, no prostitution ring, no mysterious trip to Argentina.
Al and Tipper Gore are a famous political couple, but their split after 40 years of marriage apparently stemmed from a much simpler, more mundane cause, according to friends: They simply grew apart.
And in that, experts say, they’re no different from many Americans. Such late-marriage splits are much more common than we think.
“We tend to mistakenly believe that once people reach a certain point in marriage, they just stop splitting up,” says Betsey Stevenson, an economist at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School who studies family trends. “But that’s simply not true.”
In fact, Stevenson says, though marriages are more likely to fail in the first 10 years, once you get past that, “the percentage of those divorcing each year is very similar throughout the years of marriage.”

Kilpatrick Ex-Aide Dropped from Stripper Death Lawsuit, Kilpatrick Remains
Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the city remain defendants in the lawsuit brought by slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene’s family, but his ex-lover and aide Christine Beatty and others have been dismissed.
An attorney for the family said the case, which is scheduled for trial in January, is “losing some defendants and gaining some traction” and it will be easier to schedule depositions with fewer attorneys involved.
Seven other defendants have been dismissed, including former Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings and Kilpatrick’s wife, Carlita.
Greene was rumored to have been a dancer at a private party at the mayor’s mansion in 2002. She was shot to death in 2003. The lawsuit brought in 2005 by the family alleges officials obstructed investigation into the killing for political reasons, an allegation the city denies. The suit seeks damages of $150 million.

Detroit Escorts: Convicted killer Peter Dale MacDonald fears for life in jail, court hears

June 2, 2010 at 1:13 pm | In Detroit escorts | No Comments

Peter Dale MacDonald, who appeared briefly in court on a second-degree murder charge, said heâs been the victim of âœharassment of a very insidious natureâ at the hands of corrections officers.
âœItâs well documented Iâm having serious problems with guards,â said MacDonald. âœMy life is in danger in the Ontario region.â
The Windsor police major crimes unit ended a decade-old cold case in January by charging MacDonald with the murder of Michelle Charette, 40. It was the second time police charged him with the crime. Police believe MacDonald strangled Charette and left her half-naked body in an abandoned field in the summer of 2000.
MacDonald is already serving a life sentence for strangling James Campbell in his Toronto home in April 2000.
He is also a suspect in the killing of Byron Carr, 36, of Charlottetown, P.E.I., more than two decades ago. Toronto police have also interviewed him as a suspect in the murders of three prostitutes.

Police believe MacDonald strangled Charette and left her half-naked body in an abandoned field in the summer of 2000. It was the second time police charged him with the crime, but prosecutors dropped it the first time because of inconclusive DNA testing.
MacDonald is already serving a life sentence for strangling James Campbell in his Toronto home in April 2000. He will be eligible for day parole for that crime on June 21, 2011, and full parole on June 21, 2014.
MacDonald is also a suspect in the murders of three prostitutes in Toronto, as well as the killing of Byron Carr of Charlottetown, P.E.I., more than two decades ago.

Lawyer reduces defendants in slain stripper lawsuit
Paul Egan / The Detroit News
Birmingham — The lawyer for the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene says he is dismissing all but two defendants in the family’s federal lawsuit related to her murder investigation.
Norman Yatooma said at a news conference today he is dismissing all defendants except the city of Detroit and former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
The move is an effort to expedite the case, which is scheduled to go trial in January.
It will be easier to schedule depositions if there are fewer attorneys to deal with, he said.

Greene, who was linked to a rumored stripper party at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion in the fall of 2002, was shot to death in Detroit on April 30, 2003.
