Warren — Mayor Jim Fouts today said the city will “vigorously defend” itself against a lawsuit challenging City Council’s refusal to allow new ownership of a Mound Road strip club.
Fouts spoke out today in the wake of a $10 million lawsuit filed in Macomb County Circuit Court by current and prospective shareholders of Jon Jon’s. They claim the City Council’s April decision to block an ownership transfer was racially and politically motivated.
The June 1 complaint asks the circuit court to order Warren City Council to approve the application and award damages to compensate the plaintiffs “for the outrageous conduct of the defendants.”
“The city will vigorously defend council’s right to reject it by a 5-4 vote,” Fouts said. “When our lawmakers make a decision, we are going to support them.”

Detroit Escorts: SPREADING THE WORD: Our love for others should have no limits

Sometimes the church imposes restrictions on people unnecessarily. I recently attended the ordination of a woman colleague of mine into the priesthood of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion. It was a beautiful, meaningful and powerful Mass, but it was also a painful reminder that the Roman Catholic Church still does not ordain women into the priesthood.
In order for my friend to fulfill her calling from God, she had to be ordained by another Catholic body. Even communities of faith sometimes impose unreasonable restrictions on the gifts and passions of their members.
Jesus and other great religious leaders in history taught and lived a life of love and compassion without boundaries. In John 13, he gives his followers a new commandment: love one another like he loved them. That means we are to love without boundaries, limitations or restrictions.
Jesus wants us to love like he did when conversed with a woman from Samaria at the well, something forbidden by his religion.
He wants us to love like he did when he ate with hated tax collectors and prostitutes.
