His dual life was supported by a seemingly bottomless pool of cash plundered from union pension funds. A University of Notre Dame graduate who earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, Orecchio pleaded guilty in February to embezzling millions of dollars from a handful of Michigan pension funds through his investment company, Chicago-based AA Capital Partners. He is slated to be sentenced in federal court Thursday.

Yet the bulk of the money Orecchio embezzled went toward stoking his millionaire image, according to court records. Along the way, he took up with a 27-year-old dancer who worked at Crazy Horse Detroit, a strip club where Orecchio took clients.

Since then, Dyke Marches have popped up all over the world. It has continued to grow since its inception. There is now the Melissa Etheridge Award, which has honored the lady herself, former state Senator and activist Sheila Kuehl and Lesbian News founder, Jinx Beers.

It looks like The Karate Kid is going to have to rely on Jackie Chan and its name branding to get it to that top spot. The film’s running time is going to be a hindrance, as well. When it comes down to it, The Karate Kid is a family movie, and family movies at 2-hour plus running times just don’t work as well as they might otherwise. Talk to the Wachowski Brothers about that problem. Speed Racer did have a solid opening, though, based pretty solely on its name. Chan’s presence and the fact that Sony has been pimping the hell out of this movie could give it a nice weekend take even if its legs are likely to be swept out from under it pretty quickly.

This Popeye-themed box from 1962 is one of the crown jewels in Zieja’s collection. Boxes in tip-tip shape are worth several hundred dollars.
“This is one of three original Popeye boxes made over the years,” he says. “It’d definitely be one of my favourites.”
The 1954 Superman is another favourite. It’s the holy grail of lunch box collecting and priced accordingly.
“A mint example sold for $US15,000 or $US20,000,” Zieja says.
The golden era of lunch boxes ended in 1987 when metal finally gave way to plastic. It seems somehow appropriate that the last metal box carried John Rambo’s likeness.
Thermos brought metal boxes back in 1998 but sells a relatively small number each year. Plastic boxes, like this one pimping The Empire Strikes Back, are cheaper to make.

June 4, Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings finalized a two-year contract with free-agent forward Tomas Holmstrom for $3.75 million, the Free Press learned Thursday.
The deal will pay Holmstrom $2.25 million next season, $1.5 million in 2011-12. The salary-cap hit is $1.875 million a year. Holmstrom is expected to sign today or Monday.
The vast majority of his goals are deflections or redirections from in front of the net, an area where Holmstrom spends so much time he has to wear extra padding to deal with the shoving and stick-work he absorbs as punishment. The abuse that often leaves him walking with a limp is something teammates delightfully refer to as “Homer’s pimp walk.”

As Harry told Sally, “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
For Izzo, love is in East Lansing. James has that in Cleveland, but his wandering eye might take him elsewhere. If they are lucky, they’ll meet in a bar years from now and remember with fondness their brief flirtation as they compare diamonds in their championship rings.
