Detroit Adult Entertainment: TAYLOR: Father of slain officer remembers the pain
July 31, 2010 at 3:25 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments… Just your presence, along with the multitude of people, shows how many people care,” he said. “It’s unbelievably hard losing a loved one like that. You have your good days and you have your bad days, but it never gets easier.”
Though his son was killed six years ago, Bowens said, he has a core group of people who continue to support him. He said Edwards’ widow, Shannon, is going to need that same tight-knit group.
“Every time someone gets killed, you have an outcry for a couple of days and then it’s over,” Bowens said. “Right now, she has everybody there for her. The difference is two, four, six months down the road. Who is going to be there for her then? That’s where the support has to stay.”
Matthew Bowens, 21, of Lincoln Park and Fettig, 26, of Detroit were ambushed while sitting in their patrol car after pulling over Eric Lee Marshall for soliciting a prostitute.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Legalize gay sex in public parks? Drolet sues over latest salvo in nasty …
July 31, 2010 at 8:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsWith only days remaining before Michigan’s primary election, former State Rep. Leon Drolet has filed a 10-page anti-defamation suit against one of his challengers, current state Rep. Kim Meltzer, who accused him in a campaign flier of trying to legalize gay sex in public parks and restrooms.
“I’m stunned and saddened that Kim Meltzer would lower herself to the level of printing complete lies about me,” Drolet told the Detroit Free Press. “I am truly embarrassed for Kim. She owes the voters an apology.”
Meltzer’s accusation stems from a 2003 bill Drolet co-sponsored that sought to update a 1927 state law outlawing consenting sodomy by amending it to reference only “sodomy with an animal.” The legislation made no mention of public restrooms, and public sex of any type remains illegal.
Drolet filed a similar defamation suit in 2004, when a challenger for his seat in the state House of Representatives accused him in fliers of wanting to “legalize public sex involving kids and prostitution.”

Detroit Adult Entertainment: ‘Island of misfit toys’
July 31, 2010 at 8:01 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments… I remember when I was first starting the church and we moved here, I had people who said, ‘Oh, I don’t feel safe walking down that street,’ or, ‘I wouldn’t let my kids go there,’” says Kevin Rogers, pastor of New Song Church, which opened its doors in a former bar on Drouillard in 1997.
“That kind of past history and reputation has soured a lot of people from seeing that it’s a fairly positive community.” “Positive” is not likely the word that leaps to mind when most Windsorites think of Drouillard. But despite its reputation for crime, drugs and prostitution, this is a neighbourhood of small graces and big dreams, where residents seed wildflower mix in their city parks and where everyone — including the criminals, the “crackerjacks” (crack addicts) and the prostitutes — is invited to the dinner table.

Detroit 9WXYZ) – The Action News Investigators have learned the man who claims he was at the rumored Manoogian Mansion party – and saw Attorney General Mike Cox there — has a history of mental illness.
It made big headlines this week when Wilson Kay Jr said in the slain-stripper lawsuit that Mike Cox was at the rumored party.
But the timing of Kay’s claim raised eyebrows, coming just one week before the primary election.
Now Action News Investigator Heather Catallo has learned there are serious concerns about Kay’s mental health – and her investigation exposes a history of making unfounded allegations.
It was the bombshell leak that caused a stir… an affidavit from 33 year old Wilson Kay Jr. claiming he saw Attorney General Mike Cox get a lap dance at a party inside the Manoogian Mansion back in 2002. Kay also stated in his affidavit that he saw Kwame Kilpatrick at the party and that Carlita Kilpatrick used a table leg to beat exotic dancer Tamara Greene.

July 31, 2010 at 1:49 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsNASHVILLE, Tenn. – It’s time for Jeff Fisher to open his 16th straight training camp with the Tennessee Titans, and that first practice Saturday will be a welcome return to football after a busy off-season.
Fisher expects Chris Johnson to show up, happy the Titans reshuffled some money to pay him more for 2010. Vince Young will be available for all 16 games, and Fisher hopes maybe more, with the NFL not punishing him for a Dallas strip club tussle in June.
DETROIT – Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand will be suspended for 30 days and fined US$100,000 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired, the league announced Friday.
The suspension begins Aug. 25 and Lewand will be permitted back at work Sept. 24. Lewand, who met in New York at the league office July 16 with commissioner Roger Goodell, also will do community service.
Detroit Strip Clubs: George Dawes Green simply terrifies with ‘Ravens’: New in Paperback
July 30, 2010 at 2:12 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsBeing victimized by a parent like this might be more than enough for some people to sever familial ties permanently, but as Jeannette Walls did in her memoir “The Glass Castle,” Sandell writes about her father with a nuanced view, hurt by the deception, but still loving in her understanding of an inscrutable man.
Plain Dealer reviewer Karen Schechner saw comparisons to Alison Bechdel’s 2006 memoir, “Fun Home” in the way the “book tackles family dysfunction, driven by a daughter’s investigation of her father’s dirty secrets.”
Schechner felt that Sandell’s book would have benefited from less about her “on-again off-again love life” and “more about Dad.” Schechner also wanted to know more about Sandell’s “four-year rumspringa when she has her ‘first and only lesbian fling’ in Israel and becomes a stripper in Japan, where she deflects lap dances with ‘potently unsexy’ conversations about classical piano and Philip Roth.”

Detroit Strip Clubs: Ex-mayor questioned in suit about stripper’s death
July 30, 2010 at 8:25 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDETROIT (AP) – Imprisoned ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has given a deposition in a civil suit by the family of a slain Detroit stripper.
Kilpatrick arrived Thursday at U.S. District Court in Detroit from a federal prison in Milan, Mich. He was questioned for several hours by Norman Yatooma, lawyer for Tamara Greene’s three children.
Yatooma won’t reveal what Kilpatrick said.
The suit against Detroit and Kilpatrick says authorities hindered a police probe of Greene’s 2003 killing.
Greene was shot outside her home in 2003. She’s rumored to have performed earlier at a private party at the mayor’s Manoogian mansion.
Kilpatrick’s wife Carlita and father Bernard are expected to give depositions next month in Texas, where she lives.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Poll: GOP race is between Cox, Snyder, Hoekstra
July 30, 2010 at 8:25 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsTwenty-six percent of likely Republican primary voters backed Snyder, while 24 percent supported Cox and 23 percent preferred Hoekstra, according to the survey Lansing-based EPIC-MRA released Thursday. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard is backed by 10 percent, state Sen. Tom George by 1 percent, while 14 percent are undecided.
The telephone poll of 400 likely Republican voters statewide was conducted Monday and Tuesday for the Detroit Free Press and TV stations WXYZ, WJRT, WOOD and WILX. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
Compared with a mid-June EPIC-MRA poll, Snyder has moved up 6 percentage points, while Cox and Hoekstra have remained about the same. Hoekstra has been pounded by negative ads criticizing his votes for federal bailouts and higher debt ceilings, while Cox has had to deal with attacks on his handling of an investigation into a never-proven wild party allegedly involving strippers at the Detroit mayor’s official residence.
