The father of disgraced ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick says a civil lawsuit claiming his son impeded an investigation into a stripper’s death “is a joke.”
Bernard Kilpatrick told reporters Tuesday outside attorney Norman Yatooma’s Birmingham office that he is “angry” to have been called to give a deposition in the suit.
Bernard Kilpatrick is one of dozens of potential witnesses named by Yatooma, who is representing the children of Tamara Greene. Greene was shot to death outside her home in 2003. She is rumored to have performed several months earlier at a wild party at the mayor’s official residence.
Yatooma says Kwame Kilpatrick and other city officials conspired to derail a police probe of Greene’s death.

They launch ‘good neighbor policy’ but challenge rules

Detroit –Three months ago, a controversial crackdown went into effect at city strip clubs. Police say it’s working. Bar owners say the rules hurt revenues. And critics contend the clubs have the same old problems.
Approved after much debate by the City Council, the ordinances ban lap dances and VIP rooms, force dancers to stay 6 feet from customers and on stages at least 18 inches high and require most employees of the city’s 31 clubs to buy $150 annual licenses.
…
That incident — and a fatal shooting at a Starvin’ Marvin’s on Michigan Avenue in June — have critics claiming the new rules don’t go far enough. Religious leaders and many neighbors pressed the council unsuccessfully to ban alcohol at strip clubs.

Starvin Marvin’s also is in talks to buy All Stars, a west side club on Eight Mile that was padlocked this summer for a year after a 14-year-old girl danced there. Three months later, she was found by police at another topless bar, Club Onyx. A police report shows Haidar tipped off police about the dancer when she was at Onyx. Onyx’s lawyer maintains the club was set up.
This is one of the three Starvin Marvin strip clubs that sit within blocks of each other on Michigan Avenue. Club officials say they employ hundreds at these sites, plus two others on the west side and one near Hamtramck. (Todd McInturf / The Detroit News)

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Body Parts Found on Detroit’s East Side
August 30, 2010 at 8:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments… We only know that these limbs were dropped off in specific areas down the street from each other, but, at this point, we’re not able to find any torso or any head,” said Detroit Police Lt. Blackmon.
They’re also still working to identify the victim and hoping fingerprints and DNA will offer those much needed answers. Meanwhile, neighbors, such as Alice Grant, are praying they catch the people behind this before more body parts show up in their neighborhood.
“A lot of this is going to depend on the medical examiners, and the medical examiners have the abilities to hopefully determine maybe some DNA, but that takes awhile if that’s the only way that you can identify someone,” Blackmon said.
Drug abuse and prostitution are a major problem in this neighborhood. The investigation is still in the very early stages.

DAMN BUSY WOMAN
Your dad, or granddad, will remember Vivien Leigh, a major-babe British-born actress who was married to Laurence Olivier 1940-60. She died in 1967, but still is best remembered as Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind. In a new biography of Leigh it turns out her sex life was varied and busy. The book is called Damn You, Scarlett O’Hara. The authors are Darwin Porter, who knew Leigh late in her life, and Roy Moseley, who was Olivier’s assistant. They say Viv and Larry cheated on each other non-stop, and that she had affairs with Marlon Brando and Rex Harrison, used male prostitutes, had several female lovers, etc., etc.

DETROIT – New rules have changed dirty dancing in the city of Detroit. However, one strip club is fighting back and taking the city to court.
On Monday, Penthouse is filing a motion for a temporary injunction. That means they are hoping to go back to giving lap dances while this matter plays out in court.
From Eight Mile Road, the giant pinup of a Penthouse pet paints a playful picture, but don’t be fooled by the pretty face. The Detroit strip club is planning to pounce on a new ordinance against lap dances, V.I.P. rooms and touching.
“Penthouse is not the only adults cabaret that’s being affected by it. It’s just the first one to bring a lawsuit,” said Penthouse Club Attorney Timothy Murphy.

Detroit –Owners of a Detroit strip club have gone to court to thwart recently enacted city ordinances that ban lap dancing, VIP rooms and touching, among other things.
An attorney for the Penthouse Club, on Eight Mile near Evergreen, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court today, claiming the ordinances are unconstitutional breaches of the club’s free speech rights.
The lawsuit seeks a preliminary injunction, as well as a permanent resolution in the club’s favor.

At the time, strip club owners and employees said the crackdown would cripple their business.

The city’s topless clubs employ about 6,800 workers and pay about $3 million a year in property taxes. The city is home to 40 percent of the 77 strip clubs statewide.

DETROIT (WXYZ) – Action News Investigator Heather Catallo has learned that a flurry of legal sniping back and forth between the City of Detroit and the lawyer in the slain stripper lawsuit has revealed an interesting detail about phone numbers that appeared on Tamara Greene’s cell phone.
Court records suggest that there were both outgoing and incoming calls on Tamara Greene’s phone from numbers that look like they belonged to City of Detroit employees. And that’s why the lawyer for her family wants more records handed over.
Who called Tamara Greene from numbers that possibly match cell phones issued to City of Detroit employees? That’s what attorney Norman Yatooma wants to know. Yatooma is suing the City and former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick – claiming they obstructed the investigation into Greene’s murder. The exotic dancer was rumored to have performed at a never-proven wild party that Kilpatrick allegedly held at the Manoogian Mansion. It’s been alleged that the ex-mayor’s wife, Carlita, interrupted the party and assaulted Greene.

Tamara Greene was killed in a drive-by shooting in Detroit on April 30, 2003, and she has been linked to a rumored stripper party at the Manoogian in the fall of 2002. Her family is suing the city, former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, and top city and police officials, alleging they obstructed the investigation of her still unsolved slaying for political reasons.
