January 29, 2011 at 4:36 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No CommentsChristopher Willson testified he spent the night in jail after coming upon an unconscious Hiel in the alley behind Voodoo Nightclub. He said he ran to the alley after getting a phone call from his friend Mark Curtis, who told him someone was breaking into cars there. That’s where Willson’s maroon Intrepid was parked.
Curtis is on trial, charged with manslaughter in Hiel’s April 16, 2008, death. Curtis admits to punching Hiel, whom court has heard was a drug addict. Heil routinely checked parked cars for unlocked doors so he could steal change.
Willson testified he’d been drinking with Curtis earlier in the evening, first at Curtis’s house, then at Sin Nightclub. He was in Sin when Curtis called. He was quite drunk and can’t recall the entire phone call.
Windsor police Const. Warren Braganza testified he and his partner were walking the beat in downtown Windsor. They had stopped in front of a massage parlour on Ouellette Avenue when they saw Hiel and another man walk by. His partner recognized Hiel.

But at least 10 women were forced to work as exotic dancers at Detroit-area strip clubs, held against their will and sexually assaulted. Federal prosecutors say Gonikman and others used calculated manipulation “which they referred to as ‘The System.’”The System included “the threat and use of physical force; the confiscation and restriction of passports and other legal documents; the threat of deportation for failure to comply with the rules; stories of harsh punishment meted out against previous dancers; interrogation and isolation; restrictions on movement and access to outside social contact; and extreme verbal abuse,” according to a federal grand jury indictment.
