Detroit Strip Clubs: Stronger human trafficking law coming to Michigan
March 30, 2011 at 9:14 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsSouth Dakota’s governor signed a human trafficking measure into law earlier this month, and a similar bill is making its way through the Texas legislature.
On the federal side, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it initiated 651 human trafficking investigations, made 300 arrests and secured 151 indictments and 144 convictions in fiscal year 2010.
One recent high-profile case in Michigan involves Veniamin Gonikman, who once was listed as a top fugitive by the U.S. government and is awaiting trial in Detroit on charges of human trafficking and other crimes.
He is accused of being a member of a violent ring that lured Eastern European women to the U.S. and forced them to become strippers.
The Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force, which is based at Michigan State University, said other cases in Michigan involve victims who are forced to work at strip clubs, restaurants, massage parlors, and on farms and construction sites.

Detroit Massage Parlors: City wrestles with massage parlours
March 30, 2011 at 9:01 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No CommentsThe city is still pressing ahead to regulate Windsor’s massage parlours.
In development for years, the bylaw would require licensing for massage parlours, restrict them to specific hours of operation and prohibit owners from using cameras on their premises.
…
Among the licensing commission’s considerations: Massage parlours should be allowed to provide services only from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
…
Coun. Ron Jones, chairman of the licensing commission, said some massage parlours stay open until 3 or 4 a.m.
…
Jones said the number of massage parlours in Windsor has decreased drastically in recent years. “I think we’re down to single digit numbers now -compared to the 60some that we had at one point in time.”
The fees for massage parlour licenses, as proposed, would cost owners and operators $366 and every attendant $148.
Violet Pedias, who operates a massage parlour called Infinity at 1033 Wyandotte St. W., was at Monday’s council meeting to request the deferral.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Mich. man charged in Xbox sex lure scheme
March 29, 2011 at 10:01 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDETROIT, March 29 (UPI) — A warrant alleges a Michigan man used a live Internet chat function in the Xbox 360 video game system to lure underage girls into sexual situations.
Saline, Mich., Police Detective Don Lupi said Robert Lynch, 20, is expected to surrender to authorities for arraignment on three counts of attempting to accost children for immoral purposes, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.
Lynch allegedly made sexual suggestions and mailed condoms to several Saline Middle School girls he met online between Jan. 8 and Feb. 8, police said.
While Lynch never had sex with any of the 11- to 14-year-old girls he did arrange to meet several, the News said.
On one occasion, he allegedly drove two girls to an Ypsilanti, Mich., strip club. The girls didn’t enter, police said, but Lynch allegedly purchased sex toys for them at the club.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Destroyed culture an obsession for Detroit poet
March 28, 2011 at 11:13 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsHe said that much of a writers voice comes from
his or her obsessions. Meisel said his obsession is
criticizing the way that people and society dishonor
the feminine. His poems convey his feelings about
such.
Meisel said he wanted to share some of his older
poetry that was not related to Detroit.
In one of them, he describes the struggle he
went through as both a man and a psychologist at
a strip club. He said it was like experiencing a split
personality, first thinking about how the woman was
stunning, but then questioning how she got into that
position.
As a true account from his life, the poem said
the woman had become a stripper for a number of
traumatic reasons, including that her younger sister
was raped and got pregnant. Meisel wondered what
she and other strippers had been like before taking
that career, when they were little girls with hopes and
dreams for true love.
Detroit Escorts: Warren Mayor Jim Fouts may attempt national Wal-Mart boycott
March 25, 2011 at 11:02 pm | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsIn between jokes about his apparent discomfort with his age, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts told his State of the City audience that he’s prepared to charge the ramparts and bring down America’s largest retailer with a national boycott, unless Wal-Mart does something with their now-vacant store at Tech Plaza.
Wal-Mart owns Tech Plaza, which has lost several tenants since the discount retailer closed their anchor store. Fouts called the desolate strip mall an eyesore that’s ruining the charming hamlet of Warren.
While the idea of a nation rallying against Wal-Mart because of one vacant strip mall in an aging metro Detroit suburb seems far-fetched, Fouts’ case against Wal-Mart’s property management strategy is actually sound.
March 24, Macomb Daily: The mayor said he is sending a letter to Wal-Mart advising the company that if it won’t discuss re-use of the property, the administration will initiate “nuisance abatement” measures through a rarely-invoked law that allows the city to demolish a facility vacant for more than 180 days. The site is plagued by garbage, rats, prostitutes and gangs, Fouts said.

Beatty denies sending, getting or deleting Greene emails
Robert Snell / The Detroit News
Detroit— Kwame Kilpatrick’s former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, testified today she did not send, receive or destroy any emails about slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, the police investigation into her death or a civil lawsuit filed by her relatives.
Beatty, who moved to Atlanta following the text-message scandal that led to her and the former mayor’s ouster from public office in 2008, spent about 55 minutes testifying via teleconference in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
She followed a parade of former Kilpatrick administration officials, who have testified over the past several weeks, all of whom said they did not destroy evidence related to Greene. Greene, 27, was killed in a drive-by shooting several months after she was linked to a rumored party at the mayor’s mansion in fall 2002.
