Detroit Strip Clubs: Senior citizen arrested in Detroit for running million dollar marijuana …

The stings in Wayne County add to an array of recent drug enforcement by officials in Metro Detroit.
Thursday Federal authorities say baggage handlers working for Delta Air Lines conspired to smuggle drugs to Detroit from airports in Houston and Jamaica.
Ten of the 12 people charged were former or current Delta baggage handlers, according to Brian Moskowitz, head of investigations in Michigan for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
When Northwest Airlines flight 2321 landed in Detroit, authorities seized five suitcases with 284 pounds of marijuana and 35 pounds of cocaine, the agent said. Delta is Northwest’s parent company.
And earlier this month, local law enforcement with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration raided a number of Metro Detroit homes and businesses, including two medical marijuana dispensaries, a strip club, a restaurant and the home of prominent businessman Romel Casab, who also owns the long-shuttered Packard Plant.

Defense: No prison for former escort service prostitute; feds want 10 months

Detroit— A retired porn star who worked as a prostitute for the Miami Companions escort service is a victim and shouldn’t be imprisoned, her lawyer said Thursday.
Federal prosecutors, however, say Nayubet Swaso should spend 10 months in prison for her role in helping build Miami Companions into one of the largest prostitution rings in the country.

She pleaded guilty Jan. 24 in federal court in Detroit to one count of persuading or enticing someone to engage in prostitution.

Swaso is awaiting a May trial in Pennsylvania on drug, weapons and prostitution charges, according to court records.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office labeled Miami Companions one of the country’s largest escort services, dispatching dozens of prostitutes to hotels and beachfront villas around the world. Metro Detroit was one of the busiest stops on the tour.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Good seats available

April 29, 2011 at 8:48 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

The Indians have tried to respond. They’ve slashed seat prices in the bleachers from $20 to $10 and in the upper-deck seats behind home plate from $16 to $8. The decline has left the Indians with a gorgeous stadium and 130 luxury suites and not that many people to fill them.
“The deterioration that has taken place is shocking,” says former Indians pitcher Brian Anderson, a Cleveland-area native. “I love it there. But if you’re a kid and go to college, unless you’re in the medical field, why are you going to stick around?
“Look at what happened to The Flats. That was the place you wanted to go to have a good time. Now it’s a place you go if you want to get shot.”
One bar was open Tuesday night after the Indians’ game. The lone parking lot with activity was Christie’s Cabaret, a strip club.

Detroit business leaders scoff at Geoffrey Fieger idea for legal pot
Attorney and occasional politician Geoffrey Fieger’s idea of turning Detroit into a Midwest Amsterdam, by legalizing prostitution and marijuana, doesn’t have a lot of fans among Michigan power brokers.
“I hope no one is taking that seriously,” said Michael Finney, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., at a recent “Pancakes and Politics” breakfast in Detroit.
The idea prompted head-shaking and quiet guffaws from others on a panel of experts debating revitalization efforts, which included Quicken Loans Chairman Dan Gilbert; Detroit Economic Growth Corp. CEO George Jackson Jr.; Detroit Regional Chamber President and CEO Sandy Baruah; and Hudson-Webber Foundation President and CEO David Egner.

Keith Eptstein, a 56-year-old financial adviser from Farmington Hills, better get used to spending time behind bars.
Already serving a one-year sentence for stealing $70,000 from an elderly client, Epstein on Tuesday pleaded guilty to bank fraud charges in federal court, as announced by U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade and the FBI.
Epstein allegedly directed at least 17 seniors to liquidate their legitimate holdings, which he promised to invest conservatively on their behalf. But authorities say he simply deposited their checks — totaling around $7 million — in his personal bank accounts.
Court records indicate he used some of those funds to cover gambling losses, pay “interest” to other investors and bankroll several exotic dancers.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Feds remain tight-lipped about medical marijuana raids in Oakland County

April 27, 2011 at 10:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

A woman who answered the phone for Caregivers of America on Tuesday would not confirm whether the businesses had reopened.
“Stop nagging us, stop leaving us messages,” she said before hanging up.
Romel Casab, a well-known businessman in the Metro area, is listed online as the owner of Caregivers of America. His home in Commerce Township was also raided.
“There’s nothing to represent him on; there’s no medical marijuana case involving Romel Casab,” said James Allen, an attorney who has represented Casab in other court cases.
Other locations raided include the Bayside Sports Grill in Walled Lake, the Coliseum Bar & Grill — a strip club in Detroit — and a home in Walled Lake. State records list John Semma as the owner of both businesses, though the name listed for the Coliseum is “Johni Semma.” Information online indicates Semma lives at the address raided in Walled Lake.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Farmington investment adviser pleads guilty in $7 million fraud

Detroit— A Farmington Hills investment adviser accused of spending an estimated $7 million in investor funds on strippers, gambling and personal expenses pleaded guilty today to bank fraud charges in federal court.

He also gave the dancers thousands of dollars in gifts and gave $8,000 a month to a pregnant stripper and helped support her and the baby, according to the criminal complaint. In all, the woman estimated she received $120,000 from Epstein, who also paid for a rental car and cellphone.
He gave an estimated $60,000 to another dancer — who quit her job and lived on money provided by Epstein, according to court records. A third stripper received $6,000, which she used as a down payment on a Cadillac and money she spent on new carpet for her home and party buses, according to court records.
