Norman Yatooma, the attorney representing the family of slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, is no stranger to controversy.
Yatooma, 38, has becomes a household name in Metro Detroit for his determination to prove the Manoogian Mansion party, allegedly hosted by ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, is not folklore.
May 29, The Detroit Free Press: “The suit claims that city officials scuttled Greene’s murder investigation to protect the then-mayor. Though police say she likely was killed in a dispute between drug dealers, the suit suggests — though never says specifically — that Greene was killed because she knew too much about Kilpatrick’s private life.”

Detroit Strip Clubs: Detroit officer: I never moonlighted, never danced at Manoogian Mansion
May 27, 2011 at 3:49 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsDetroit — For more than eight years, Detroit Police officer Paytra Williams remained silent about whispers and accusations linking her to a racy Manoogian Mansion party and slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene.
…
The News asked to interview Williams in 2010 when she was being deposed in a case brought by Greene’s family against the city of Detroit and Kilpatrick over the stripper’s murder investigation. The request was turned down by her attorney, although he said she would deny any involvement in the alleged party.
…
Williams said she did not know Greene. And she never danced at the All-Star gentleman’s club on Eight Mile, where Greene once worked.
…
Her last day as an exotic dancer, Williams said, led to a career in law enforcement. In 1995, she saw a man get shot outside a now-closed Detroit strip club on Livernois. Williams said she administered first aid, helped saved the man’s life, identified and testified against the shooter, who was convicted.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Formulaic "The Hangover: Part II" still brings laughs
May 26, 2011 at 10:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsIf you are a fan of the original Hangover, you will like this movie. It was definitely hilarious and worth seeing, although not quite as hilarious as the first, since we already know how crazy it’s going to be. There was rampant nudity throughout, including one scene in a strip club no one will forget anytime soon, as well as lots of swearing. Justin Bartha’s (”Holy Rollers”) character Doug gets left out of the fun again, as he left the bonfire early and didn’t get swept up with the rest of the guys, but this works well for the movie, since the original “Wolfpack” (Bradley Cooper, Galifianakis, and Helms) get to navigate Bangkok together, similar to their adventures in Vegas in the first movie.Paul Giamatti (”Win Win”) has a small role in the movie as well, which I didn’t know before seeing it, and there is an interesting cameo at the end, though he’s listed in the IMDB page for the movie if you don’t like surprises. The film has a Detroit-area connection too: Justin Bartha grew up in West Bloomfield, and in fact graduated from West Bloomfield High School, in the class of 1996.

IRON RIVER—Bernhardt on Broadway, a one-woman musical about Sarah Bernhardt, who is often referred to as the most famous actress who ever lived, will be at the Windsor Center on Saturday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
Set in the 1890s when the Divine Sarah was at the height of her career, the show is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Musicals when one could count on leaving the theatre with a tune dancing in their head and a lyric tugging at their heart.
This is a ‘no holds barred’ exposé about the world’s first superstar, the daughter of a courtesan who overcame countless obstacles, formed her own theatre company, and traveled the globe performing (in French only) to sold out crowds from Australia to Brazil, Russia to Canada.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Drunken driver arrested after picking up prostitute in Ypsilanti, police say
May 25, 2011 at 9:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsYpsilanti police say they arrested a drunken driver Monday morning, shortly after he picked up a suspected prostitute on East Michigan Avenue.
The 48-year-old man was pulled over in the 100 block of South Grove Street at 12:24 a.m. after he picked up a 21-year-old Ypsilanti Township man near the intersection of East Michigan Avenue and Miles Street, police said.
After being stopped, the driver got out of his car and walked away, while the suspected prostitute crouched down in the passenger seat, Det. Sgt. Troy Fulton said. Officers caught up with the driver and arrested him. A DataMaster breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, Fulton said. In addition, the driver had a suspended license and there was no license plate on the car, police said. The passenger, who had several outstanding misdemeanor warrants, also was arrested, Fulton said. Lee Higgins covers crime and courts for AnnArbor.com. Detroit Adult Entertainment: Al-Qaida Bomber Leaves A Fingerprint, Links To Underwear Bomber
May 25, 2011 at 9:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsBin Laden’s death leaves al-Qaida’s core in Pakistan with a leadership vacuum, one that could make the Yemeni branch known as al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula even more prominent. The Yemeni franchise already had eclipsed bin Laden’s central organization to become al-Qaida’s leading fundraising, propaganda and operational arm. In a eulogy to bin Laden posted online earlier this month, the group’s leader promised more violence.
“What is coming is greater and worse, and what is awaiting you is more intense and harmful,” said Nasser al-Wahishi, who once was bin Laden’s personal secretary.
Al-Qaida’s Yemen branch has become so well-known in the United States that some commentators speculated in the days after bin Laden’s death that the radical U.S.-born Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki would succeed him. But U.S. officials and counterterrorism experts say that’s extremely unlikely, given his American citizenship, his relative newcomer status, his 1997 arrest in San Diego on solicitation of prostitution and the fact that he’s not even the operational leader in Yemen.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Flurry of texts preceded murder
May 25, 2011 at 5:26 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsA Superior Court jury heard of a flurry of text messages between two men in the minutes before Nicholas Ingram was fatally stabbed in the parking lot of a Windsor strip club.
“I need that to Leopards,” Ingram’s friend, Devon Arthurs, wrote to a man using a cellphone with a Toronto number. Seconds later, Arthurs texted again, “Asap.”
On the witness stand Tuesday, Arthurs said “that” meant cocaine. Assistant Crown attorney Shelley McGuire suggested otherwise, asking Arthurs if he was connected to a shooting on Harrison Avenue shortly after Ingram was stabbed on July 21, 2009.
Ingram, 24, was fatally stabbed in the chest at Leopard’s Lounge minutes after the 2 a.m. closing. Kenyatta O’Neil Brown, 29, is charged with second-degree murder.
Arthurs testified Brown was at the bar when he and Ingram arrived about 1 a.m. He and Ingram joined a group of friends Arthurs couldn’t name. Brown was with a group of six or seven men. Brown exchanged stares with Ingram and Arthurs. Arthurs said there was “nothing good” about Brown’s demeanour, and the staring “aggravated” both him and Ingram.
