Detroit Strip Clubs: Tourism promotion found lacking

May 24, 2011 at 6:13 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

The tourist season is rapidly approaching and I’m anxious to show my brother-in-law around our region over the Victoria Day holiday. So, what is going on in our area? I turn to the Internet and type in Windsor, Ontario events and get a mixed bag of local sporting events and a site touting the exciting Red Bull Air Race in 2010.
Even when I visit our Windsor-Essex tourism site, I find some events but the only festivals listed are for 2010. So this got me thinking about the state of local tourism.
Essex County has tremendous tourism potential. I had such high hopes when Chris Ryan joined the board but when he left so abruptly, it made me suspect that our tourism board is more involved with politics and personalities than policies and promotions.
Now is the time to put some energy into making our city tourist-friendly. We can finally lose the tawdry reputation of the past of kiddie bars and strip clubs.

Kid Rock turned 40 in January. His latest album Born Free is a slice of heartland country-rock.
And for the first time in his career, the man otherwise known as Robert James Ritchie avoided the Parental Advisory tag warning of explicit content on a record.
Some could argue Ritchie has finally gone soft and embraced middle age.
Yes, Kid Rock rose to fame with rap-metal anthems Bawitdaba and Cowboy, relished a bad-boy image fuelled by drugs, alcohol and strippers, and earned plenty of media attention for a punch-up with ex-wife Pamela Anderson’s former husband Tommy Lee and an infamous brawl at a Waffle House in Atlanta.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Miami Companions madam to be sentenced next month

May 21, 2011 at 9:13 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

Detroit — Miami Companions madam Laurie Carr will learn how much time, if any, she will spend in prison June 28 for helping run one of the country’s largest prostitution sex rings.

The June 28 date will be a busy one for former Miami Companions workers. Former office manager and alleged prostitute Michelle (Mickey) Matarazzo will be sentenced that day and could get seven months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to coerce and entice prostitution.

The sex ring sent dozens of prostitutes to hotels and beachfront villas around the world to have sex with clients. Metro Detroit was one of the busiest stops on the tour.
Greg Carr’s girlfriend, Fabiola Contreras, a former Miami Companions prostitute, pleaded guilty in federal court May 12 and could spend six months in prison and be forced to leave the country.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Ex-Lincoln Park sauna owner gets stayed sentence for prostitution

May 19, 2011 at 8:13 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments

The owner of the former Yoshiko Sauna in Duluth will not spend time behind bars for her role in promoting prostitution in Lincoln Park.
Suzy Woo-Young Kotts, 75, pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor count of prostitution in a public place in St. Louis County District Court on Wednesday. She was facing a felony count of solicitation, inducement or promotion of prostitution. That crime carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

Questioned and answering through an interpreter Wednesday, Kotts, who has said she came to America from Korea in 1966, admitted to having owned Yoshiko Sauna, to knowing that women working there were engaging in prostitution and to receiving profits from prostitution.
According to court records, Kotts has prior prostitution convictions in Hennepin County in 1989 and 1991.
The Yoshiko Sauna was a neighborhood trouble spot. In 2002, it was robbed four times in nine days. In 1997, the business was raided numerous times by Duluth police and had employees arrested for prostitution.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Deep Inside Hollywood

Now that Channing Tatum has wrapped “Haywire” with director Steven Soderbergh, his next project will take him back to his days as a 19-year-old male stripper. No, it’s not a remake of the Christopher Atkins-starring ’80s male-stripper drama (and unintentional comedy) “One Night In Heaven.” This is going to be the Channing Tatum-starring 2012 male-stripper comedy-drama “Magic Mike.” How will they differ? For starters, Soderbergh is postponing his threatened retirement to direct the thing and re-team with Tatum, who’ll lend an air of autobiographical realness to the project since it’s based on his own real-life experiences. It’s all underway right now and if the creative team wants a long life and legacy for the film from what is sure to be its ultimate fan base, they’d be wise to A) set it in Las Vegas, B) make sure there’s plenty of full-frontal nudity, C) give Gina Gershon lots of great dialogue and D) remember to pronounce it “Ver-SAYCE.”

Detroit— A second strip bar sued Gov. Rick Snyder in federal court today to block a new state law regulating billboards advertising sexually oriented businesses.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit by Inkster-based Flying Aces LLC. It is challenging the constitutionality of Public Act 343, which took effect in March, saying it violates rights of free speech and expression.
The law says adult businesses with signs featuring anything other than words, numbers and logos can be fined up to $10,000 a day.
“Those restrictions leave plaintiff with virtually no means of effectively communicating its very identity to a majority of the public through billboards and to a majority of consumers through advertisement,” Flying Aces LLC lawyer Timothy Murphy wrote in the lawsuit.

Detroit— The city’s top lawyer and Sharon McPhail, the ex-councilwoman and former general counsel to Kwame Kilpatrick, were given a copy of a federal judge’s order to preserve evidence related to the Tamara “Strawberry” Greene lawsuit, according to federal court records.
The disclosure was made in an affidavit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit, where a federal judge is trying to determine whether the city intentionally destroyed emails that could shed light on Greene’s death.
She is rumored to have danced at a never-proven party at the Manoogian Mansion, the mayor’s official residence.
A federal judge in March 2008 ordered the city to preserve evidence. Soon after, lawyer Mayer Morganroth, who represented Kilpatrick and the city, said he discussed the order with McPhail and John Johnson, who at the time was the city’s top lawyer.
