Detroit Strip Clubs: Nickelback doesn’t deserve the constant dissing

November 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments

What is it about Nickelback, who are playing the Grey Cup today as well, that makes them a lightning rod for hate? I spent part of Thursday on TV trying to explain why everyone cites Nickelback as The Band You Must DespiseT. E-mails and tweets on the subject made the answer sound self-evident. “They’re hated because they suck!” Another responded “People hate Nickelback for the same reasons they hate Justin Bieber and NKOTB (New Kids on the Block).” Neither really answered the question.
Frankly, I’ve never understood the source of this venom. Is it because Nickelback writes carefully formulated arena rock?
Maybe it’s their super radio-friendly pop-rock ballads. Is it because they’ve sold 50 million records?
Or does all this negativity spring from their image of their fans, people often characterized by haters as a) having very poor and/ or unsophisticated taste in music; or b) pickup-drivin’ working-class rednecks who can’t wait to spend their paycheques on strippers and beer?

Human trafficking is considered to be one of the fastest growing criminal industries in the world and generates billions of dollars in profits, so how come no one is talking about it?

The casino and its hotel and theatre, St. Clair College and a growing farmers market have all come downtown. The new riverfront stage is finished.
Despite the season, you can still see the green roof. I’ve been to a concert there, under a clear night sky with a full moon. Now we’ll have a university, library, art gallery, sports and recreation, maybe a museum, maybe a new university media school in the old bus station. Real destinations are materializing across the core.

Following them, hope-fully, will be more businesses, restaurants and, could it be, shops other than convenience stores.
A few years ago, Windsor’s downtown was an abyss of kiddie bars, massage parlours and strip joints.
