But the union and the cabal who control it have all the cards stacked in their favour, including a provincial government which sides with them as political allies and a Police Act that prevents meaningful discipline. You might not want a handful of hard cases running things, but if the law says they can, they will.
The lack of legal discipline is the real issue rotting the heart out of the Windsor force (and a few others, it must be said).
For more than 20 years a band of rogue cops within the department has been careering out of control and beyond punishment – lying, cheating, stealing, smuggling, drinking on the job, evading taxes, beating up innocent and not-so-innocent bystanders, charging innocent people with police assault, hiring and promoting relatives and friends, consorting with strippers, leading minors astray, threatening a public official, using sick days as vacation, stealing overtime …
