Detroit Adult Entertainment: Are Detroit police officers ticketing law-abiding citizens in high crime areas?
February 9, 2012 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsAccording to a WXYZ investigation, Detroit police are ticketing people for driving in areas known for high drug and prostitution traffic—even if the “violators” happened to be going to work or dropping off a 12-year-old after football practice.
Feb. 7, WXYZ: “He pulled me over because I don’t look like I belong here after dark and my car is not a very pretty car,” he said. What he was doing was something that doesn’t normally grab the attention of Detroit Police: mentoring a 12-year-old boy. McGowan and his wife both mentor Jerry and his sister Linda. Over the summer, Robert enrolled Jerry on the same Royal Oak football team his own son plays for. “He’d come over to our house after practice, eat dinner with us…and then right around dark we’d take him home,” he said.
…
Ticketing a guy mentoring inner city kids because he driving in a high prostitution zone constitutes a show of force and a few more citations look good on the books, but what is the net result? A few prostitutes and johns are motivated to move the trade a few blocks down the road? Hey, that’s fantastic.

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Books discussed in this essay:
February 9, 2012 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsMalcolm’s zoot-suited performance at the induction center was a different version of his Sandwich Red routine on the railroad. Both were examples of buffoonery, designed to achieve, respectively, financial reward and a permanent deferment from military service; both directly repudiated the forward, militant, and assertive model of his father. Though he had objected in principle to going to war, his choice of method for avoiding service was pointedly the opposite of actually embodying that principle.
The downward slide continued. Hustling, numbers-running, drug-dealing, pimping, “paid homosexual encounters,” an abusive love affair with a white woman—all culminated in his arrest as the ringleader of a smalltime burglary crew. The involvement of three white women (and their witness-stand claims of coercion) guaranteed a long prison term which Malcolm began serving in 1946. The experience also confirmed for him the weakness and devilishness of women-white women most of all.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: First juror picked to hear double murder case from Waterford, Norwich
February 9, 2012 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsStephen M. Carney and David J. Smith, two senior prosecutors from the New London State’s Attorney’s office, are prosecuting the case. Anderson is represented by attorneys Christopher Duby, of North Haven, and John T. Walkley, of Milford. They are special public defenders, which are private attorneys appointed by the court to represent a person who cannot pay for a lawyer.
Anderson’s mother and three others sat behind him in the front row of the courtroom gallery, listening as the attorneys questioned the people who might decide whether he is guilty or not guilty of murder.
Pellegrino’s mother, Jean Russell, said during a phone interview that she intends to be in court once the trial begins. Comeau’s survivors could not be reached for comment.
The two victims were troubled women who worked as prostitutes and smoked crack cocaine. In interviews with police, Anderson, who has lived in New London and Norwich, admitted he was a “trick artist” who traded crack for sex with prostitutes. He admitted knowing both women but denied killing them and continues to proclaim his innocence.

to go to an apartment where a customer was waiting, she said, and now he was
waiting downstairs to make sure she did not escape. She had followed the pimp’s

Detroit Adult Entertainment: International child porn convict sentenced in US
February 9, 2012 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsBoras is one of 35 people internationally accused of posting child pornography on the Lost Boy bulletin board.
Court documents indicate the participants were men with a sexual interest in boys who established the bulletin board as a forum to trade child pornography. The FBI shut down the bulletin board three years ago, about the same time they started arresting the pornography ring’s members.
Of the 16 defendants arrested in the United States, 15 have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial, Justice Department officials said. One defendant died in custody.
The FBI was alerted to the Lost Boy bulletin board by Eurojust, a European Union law enforcement agency. Information from Italian and Norwegian authorities led to a North Hollywood, California, man who was communicating with an Italian citizen about child pornography and how to engage in child sex tourism in Romania.

The Booty Lounge Bus sits in the driveway of Travis Hayward’s home in Montrose Township as the co-owner of Detroit’s most controversial strip club on wheels.
“It’s their choice to have the vehicle, but they should be a little modest about it,” said Corcoran, 33, who noticed the bus roughly a week ago. “I thought it was a joke at first, but it’s been there a little too long for that.”

Ed Henderson, a member of the festival’s committee and one of the original organizers, said he thinks the bus could be a good fit for one of the late-night after-parties hosted at local bars.Henderson thinks the owners could get a booth downtown to promote the party and sell shirts, as long as there are no strippers or indecent materials on festival grounds.”As long as it’s not offensive, I want everybody in the community to come,” Henderson said, adding that the final call would have to be made by the entire 20-plus member committee. The event, a spinoff of the city’s popular Back to the Bricks classic car festival, will enter its sixth year this September.
