Detroit Adult Entertainment: Ypsilanti Township again taking on deteriorating Holmes Road trailer park
February 6, 2012 at 10:37 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsBurton also had several derelict trailers put up on wheels in preparation to be hauled away, but they have sat for months without moving. He couldn’t be reached by AnnArbor.com for comment.
Several residents in the park have maintained their properties, but many of the units are in such poor condition that Fulton said officials are having trouble determining whether anyone is living in them.
Per the 2010 order, Burton is to pull proper work permits, but officials are aware of work being performed without them. Officials must inspect each trailer and issue a certificate of occupancy before anyone can move in.
While there haven’t been any reports of serious crimes in Greenbriar, Fulton said reports of vagrants residing in the vacant units are alarming. That issue was part of what accelerated the decline of Ypsilanti Mobile Village and led to it becoming a “haven” for drug dealers and prostitutes.

Detroit Strip Clubs: State struggles for more control over private, charity poker rooms
February 6, 2012 at 10:00 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThen Texas Hold ‘Em, a variation of poker, exploded in popularity in 2003 when an amateur named Chris Moneymaker won $2.5 million in the heavily televised World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
The next year, nonprofit groups convinced Michigan to allow them to use Texas Hold ‘Em as a cash game to raise money.
Just like that, Kiwanis clubs and the Jaycees had their own moneymaker.
“It’s fantastic,” said Bob Sullivan, president of the Democratic Club of Taylor. “I didn’t realize that many people are addicted to gambling.”
A casino feel
In charity poker rooms, the nonprofits oversee the money and recordkeeping while private operators do everything else — providing workers, equipment, advertising and the location. They split the profits.
The card rooms in Metro Detroit are mostly in bowling alleys, pool halls and bars. Others are at a police lodge, a harness racing track and a strip club, which closed after just two months.
Detroit Escorts: Detroit Police seek public’s help to solve murders of women linked to escort site
February 4, 2012 at 1:37 am | In Detroit escorts | No CommentsDetroit— Police on Friday urged the public and those who’ve used the Internet site backpage.com for escort services to come forward with information in the unsolved murders of four women whose bodies were found in car trunks on the city’s east side in December.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr., in a statement Friday, renewed the appeal from law enforcement for tips in the deaths.
Cousins Demesha Hunt, 24, and Renisha Landers, 23, were found Dec. 19 in the trunk of a silver or gray 2009 Chrysler 300 abandoned between two vacant homes in the 14900 block of Promenade. The bodies of two others, Natasha Curtis, 29, and Vernitha McCrary, 29, were found Dec. 25 in the trunk of McCrary’s white 1997 Buick LeSabre sedan in the 14900 block of Lannette. The vehicle had been set on fire. The two locations are only a few blocks apart.
Police say all four deaths may be related because three of the four women had offered adult escort services through the website.
Detroit Strip Clubs: House votes to continue federal worker pay freeze
February 3, 2012 at 12:25 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe House also passed, by voice vote, a resolution that would cut House committee budgets by an average of 6 percent in 2012. That reduction, combined with a 5 percent cut last year, would produce savings of $28 million.
The House also voted 395-27 for a bill that would ban use of welfare money in gambling casinos, liquor stores and adult entertainment places such as strip clubs. The House passed a similar provision in December, but it never made it through the Senate.
Many states issue welfare recipients Electronic Benefits Transfer cards with cash benefits. The cards are supposed to assist families with basic needs, including food, shelter and clothing. The cards also provide a way of tracking where benefits are withdrawn, and that’s how states discovered the withdrawals at casinos, liquor stores and strip clubs.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Club’s owners should be ashamed
February 3, 2012 at 12:25 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe most common hyperbole arguing for holding this event has been that, because it is an act between consenting adults, it should be tolerated. That because there is an exchange of money, it makes this show right.
Of course, these are empty positions. If a business, for example, were to replace the term “dwarf” with “black,” or “Jew,” or another identifiable subculture, I am almost certain there would be more response on this, no matter what the price.
Further, from what I can tell, there appears to be only one “dwarf ” being tossed. Does this gentleman speak for all “dwarfs” or just his own short-term cash needs?
The owners of Leopard’s Lounge and Broil strip club in Windsor are wilfully ignorant and should be ashamed of themselves. It hardly says anything positive about Windsor.

January 30, 2012 at 9:37 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsFavre talked about how he relieved pressure during timeouts by singing in the huddle.
It was funny stuff, off the cuff, which was typical of Favre. The story made headlines the next day.
Unfortunately for the Packers, the Broncos had a better punch line — a 31-24 victory.
Bare facts
: The Patriots got their second Lombardi Trophy for their 32-29 win over the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII, but Janet Jackson stole the show with her halftime performance.
In a duet with Justin Timberlake, Jackson’s bodice popped open, momentarily exposing a naked body part. It created a national uproar, and Jackson later apologized.
Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson reacted with a sense of humor. When asked a couple months later what he thought about the halftime show, Wilson replied quickly: “You mean the stripper?”

The encouragement is hardly necessary. Before the strip club’s doors even opened for the night, the reservation list was seven pages long. People had come for this — a chance to win a trophy engraved “Dwarf-Tossing Champion.”

At the end of the evening, as Da Silva heads out for the casino, he assesses where his moral compass landed. “I feel no more socially guilty than when I normally come out of a strip club.”

Detroit Strip Clubs: Dwarf-tossing makes reappearance in Windsor
January 30, 2012 at 2:49 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsHundreds cheered loudly at a Windsor strip club on the weekend as a local dwarf dressed in a baby costume was repeatedly catapulted through the air.
The event, that took place at a packed Leopard’s Lounge and Broil, was popular with hundreds signed up to participate.
The dwarf, a Windsor resident whose stage name is Tripod, refused an interview.
In pairs, participants took hold of a harness that was attached to the dwarf and threw him as far as they could. The boisterous crowd laughed, clapped and applauded while the four-foot, eight-inch man was chucked across the stage. Five air mattresses were laid out to ensure a safe landing.
The competition has drawn a swarm of negative comments, with critics citing issues of human rights and dignity. But Leopard’s general manager, Barry Maroon, said he sees nothing wrong with the event.
…
A 32-year-old stripper, Kahlua, said the toss was similar to her job.
