City must yield phone records in stripper suit
Judge rules personnel files of ex-police chief, others also be given

Detroit — A federal magistrate judge Thursday told the city of Detroit to produce cell phone records and other documents within 16 days to a lawyer representing the family of a slain stripper.
The city must produce personnel files of six city officials, including ex-Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings and officers who served on ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s security detail. But U.S. Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen will let the city redact personal information and details that could endanger safety.
Birmingham attorney Kirkland Garey, who represents the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, argued in a court filing last month that the city delayed turning over certain documents and records sought in the case.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Michigan Attorney General will be back
September 3, 2010 at 3:37 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsHis opponents hinted that he was too close to the former mayor, that he didn’t adequately investigate a long-rumored “party” at the mayor’s residence, and that both men were part of a corrupt network of Wayne County politicians.
Mr. Cox thought that wouldn’t stick, in part because his office brought about the mayor’s final downfall. After Kilpatrick assaulted two sheriff’s deputies, Mr. Cox filed the charges that would lead to the mayor resigning and taking a plea.
“I could have made this all go away by insisting on being in court and arguing the case myself,” he said. “But I didn’t do that — I thought Kym Worthy, [the Wayne County prosecutor], had the right to do it, and I ended up paying for it.”
As for the legendary party, which allegedly featured strippers, sex acts, and an assault on an exotic dancer by the mayor’s wife, Mr. Cox doubts it ever occurred.

Associated Press – September 2, 2010 1:44 PM ET
DETROIT (AP) – A judge has ordered Detroit to give certain phone records to lawyers who want to know whether city employees had contact with a stripper before she was fatally shot in 2003.
It’s another development in a lawsuit filed against the city and former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Tamara Greene’s family claims the murder investigation was intentionally bungled. Kilpatrick denies it.
Greene’s family says her phone showed calls with prefixes that might belong to city employees. Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen on Thursday said the city must find phone records as well as turn over some payroll records.
In the weeks ahead, lawyers for the city and Kilpatrick will ask that the lawsuit be dismissed.

Detroit Escorts: In the Works: “Silver Tongues,” the Environment, Being Big in Japan and …

His feature debut, “Silver Tongues,” centers on a duo of chameleons who wreak havoc on those who cross their path. The project, starring Lee Tergesen (“Oz,” “Generation Kill”) and Enid Graham (“Margot at the Wedding”), follows a couple who use their talent for performance as part of a dark game.
Driving from town to town, the two lovers don different personas to deceive and destroy the lives of the people in their path. But each manipulation begins to take its toll. Soon the performances spiral out of control, and the game itself threatens their very relationship.
“I first wrote the story while working in the U.K.,” Arthur told iW. He noted that his experience working as a prison guard, and later as a security guard at a brothel, gave him insight into the art of assimilation, which underlies the main characters’ modus operandi.

Cell phone records sought in slain Detroit stripper case

A lawyer representing the family of a murdered stripper are scheduled to appear in federal court at 10 a.m. today to urge a judge to force the city of Detroit to produce cell phone records and other documents.
Birmingham attorney Norman Yatooma, who represents the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, argued in a court filing last month that the city has continued to delay turning over certain documents and records sought in the case.
Greene, linked to a rumored party at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion in the fall of 2002, was shot to death in Detroit in April 2003. Her family sued ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the city in 2005, alleging they obstructed the investigation of her unsolved murder.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: CVS, Tim Hortons to rise from
September 1, 2010 at 5:01 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No Comments… That big, ugly parking structure and hotel wasn’t all that conducive to foot traffic,” Klobucher said. “The way that it’s configured, you can get off the expressway, go to Tim Hortons and get right back on the expressway. I can’t think of a better location.”
Earlier this year, demolition began on the long-blighted, nine-story Days Hotel building — once the tallest on Hazel Park’s skyline — and its accompanying 40,000-square-foot, two-story parking structure.
Since 1991, when Holiday Inn first sold the 1.69-acre property, the structure has seen management by a revolving door of companies, from Quality Inn and the Star Hotel to Guest House Inn and La Casa Inn. Each venture failed.
With a history of crime, including prostitution rings, the building languished in its own decay, remaining shuttered a year before a settlement between the city and Huntington Property Holdings was reached, leading to its demolition.

Bernard Kilpatrick, the father of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, on Tuesday broke weeks of silence with an attack on the family of slain stripper Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, claiming the civil suit they filed against the city is about money not justice.
“There’s no reason for me to be here,” Kilpatrick told reporters moments before he sat for a six-hour deposition with attorney Norman Yatooma. “There was no party. So these greedy so-and-sos are trying to get some money because they seen it happen.”
He went on to accuse the father of Greene’s son of “pimping that little boy” for profit in the lawsuit.

Bernard Kilpatrick calls claims of son’s ties to stripper death ‘crap’
Robert Snell / The Detroit News
Birmingham –After delaying for weeks, Bernard Kilpatrick answered questions under oath for much of Tuesday about a lawsuit involving the death of a stripper rumored to perform at a party he insists never happened.
Kilpatrick, the father of disgraced ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, arrived early and was eager to talk.
Despite his lawyer’s efforts to silence him, Bernard Kilpatrick criticized an investigation into the alleged Manoogian Mansion party, called the father of slain stripper Tamara Greene’s son a “deadbeat” and defended his imprisoned son, who was indicted in June on 19 fraud and tax counts.
Before heading into the deposition, Kilpatrick told reporters it is “terrible” that he is being deposed, denied the raucous party ever occurred and blamed the civil lawsuit on “greedy” people.

The father of disgraced ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick says a civil lawsuit claiming his son impeded an investigation into a stripper’s death “is a joke.”
Bernard Kilpatrick told reporters Tuesday outside attorney Norman Yatooma’s Birmingham office that he is “angry” to have been called to give a deposition in the suit.
Bernard Kilpatrick is one of dozens of potential witnesses named by Yatooma, who is representing the children of Tamara Greene. Greene was shot to death outside her home in 2003. She is rumored to have performed several months earlier at a wild party at the mayor’s official residence.
Yatooma says Kwame Kilpatrick and other city officials conspired to derail a police probe of Greene’s death.
