Detroit Massage Parlors: 3 Valpo massage therapists set to lose licenses

March 2, 2010 at 4:24 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

The attorney general’s office sought revocation of the three massage therapy licenses registered and posted on the wall at the Oriental Pain Management Center, 823 Lincolnway. The facility was the site of an undercover raid in January by Valparaiso police and the Porter County Drug Task Force.
On three occasions, undercover officers received $40 massages and for $40 more staff offered to fondle the officers. As part of their investigation, the officers accepted the additional services but left before the act was completed, said Valparaiso Detective Philip Rochon.
As a result of the police investigations, Wenjuan Yao, 44, was charged with prostitution, and Min Ye, 46, was charged with aiding in prostitution. Both women face a year in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor charges.
Deputy Attorney General Amanda Bailor told the massage therapy board that the massage parlor was “designed to make it appear to the public legitimate massage therapy services are being provided.” But, Bailor said, “the primary business of Oriental Pain Management Center is prostitution offered under the guise of massage therapy.”

Detroit Massage Parlors: In Vancouver, enjoyment is an Olympic event

February 12, 2010 at 9:36 pm | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

In the last two decades Richmond has become Vancouver’s new Chinatown, home to the second-biggest Asian community in North America; Asian Canadians now make up about 60% of Richmond’s population.
Stepping into one of Richmond’s shopping malls is a quick trip to the contemporary Orient. Yaohan Centre has a giant pan-Asian supermarket, and Aberdeen Centre is classic, over-the-top Hong Kong, right down to a showy multimedia water-fountain production in the foyer.
There are Sikh temples, the biggest Buddhist temple in North America, Chinese foot massage parlors and herb shops, but I go to Richmond to eat, especially at the Richmond Night Market, open weekends throughout the summer. You can smell the spicy lamb kebabs and sautéed noodles long before you reach the maze of 300 stalls lighted by strings of lights and hazed in plumes of smoke from grilled squid and prawns.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Ex-candidate Mohamed Chams seeks Windsor ward 2 seat

February 12, 2010 at 1:12 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

… That’s what led me to Ward 2,” said Chams, a South Windsor resident. “I picked the area that I felt would be the most challenging…. That’s where the work really needs to be done.”
Chams said his plan is to propose a bylaw that would force property owners to either demolish or improve vacant homes.
Chams also isn’t shy about criticizing the city’s current administration. An equation on his website reads: “Bad administrative decisions = unnecessary legal fees = unnecessary property tax increases.”
In March 2008, Chams was involved in a dispute with Windsor police over a property he owned on Goyeau Street that was leased to a massage parlour.
But Chams said he’s not worried about past controversies tainting his chances at the Ward 2 councillor seat.
“I’ve been fighting to reduce the number of (massage parlour) licences,” he said.

Detroit Massage Parlors: More airport security won’t do much to stop terrorists. Leaving the Middle …

January 29, 2010 at 5:48 pm | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

Consider the evidence from existing policies toward drugs, prostitution, and immigration. In each case, policy tries to ban or limit the activity, hoping to raise the costs of supplying it. Meanwhile, minimal effort is exerted to reduce the demand for intoxication, sex, and a higher income.
The net result is that drugs and prostitution are widely available and the US is home to at least 9 million illegal immigrants. Sure, existing laws may reduce these activities somewhat, but the net impact appears to be minor.
Why?
Desire often trumps law. And it’s just too easy to get around the law. Illegal drugs and immigrants can enter the country along lengthy borders and via sea, air, or land routes. Purveyors of prostitution services have endless means for avoiding even the most robust enforcement effort, from massage parlors to escort services to Internet sex.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Warren Beatty memoir puts Tiger Woods philandering ‘in bush-league’

January 5, 2010 at 2:12 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

New York – (Small Potatoes): A new biography of screen legend Warren Beatty sets the benchmark for celeb shagging at ‘around 13,000,’ easily eclipsing current top US lothario Tiger Woods.
According to the memoir the 72 year-old movie actor, director and procducer’s lifetime achievement figures are based on a conservative estimate of ‘roughly four women a week.’
“More like four rough women a week!” an LA FagHagSlagMag book review commented today following a survey of possible also-rans, hand-jobs, massage parlor trysts, drive-bys and vanity-shags.
By comparison golf champ Tiger Woods’ alleged tally of 18 mistresses in the last six years represents ‘a drop in the bucket’ – albeit a promising start to a potentially high-flying philandering career.
Officially Beatty’s tally includes – in no particular order – Madonna, Jane Fonda, Isabelle Adjani, Diane Keaton, Joan Collins, Julie Christie and current wife Annette Bening.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Rx for dope

December 9, 2009 at 5:48 pm | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

Now the task force has submitted its first set of proposals, recommending that dispensaries be prohibited within 1,000 feet of schools, playgrounds or libraries and within 500 feet of each other. It also recommended that dispensary hours be limited, that the storefronts be required to hire private security and that dispensary applicants be required to provide evidence showing their operation would be legitimately nonprofit. Future recommendations are to include guidelines for police enforcement and for patients and caregivers.
For an industry with the track record of marijuana dispensaries, these recommendations clearly don’t go far enough.
The obvious first step would be to allow marijuana dispensaries only as police-regulated businesses, just like massage parlors, strip joints, pawn shops and numerous other businesses. Would-be dispensary owners and operators should be required to submit their applications to the police department and they and their employees should be subject to criminal background checks. Police should be the lead enforcement agency for compliance.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Proposed bylaw gives massage parlour owners the rub

December 2, 2009 at 3:48 pm | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

Proposed bylaw gives massage parlour owners the rub Last Updated: Wednesday, December 2, 2009 | 9:14 AM ET CBC News
A proposed bylaw that would limit the hours body rub parlours can operate in Windsor, Ont., would ruin business, said parlour owner Shari Cascadden at a public meeting Tuesday night.
The bylaw would force the city’s seven body rub parlours, which provide erotic massages to paying customers, to buy licences at a cost of $366 for owner-operators and $148 for attendants.
And it would restrict the hours they can operate. Under the proposed bylaw, they could be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Cascadden, who owns the Elite International parlour on Ouellette Avenue in downtown Windsor, said 80 per cent of her business comes in after 10 p.m. and peaks at 2 a.m.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Notorious Yoshiko Sauna in Lincoln Park/West End demolished

October 30, 2009 at 5:24 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

Sitting at the controls of a Caterpillar excavator, Lund used the machine’s bucket and mechanical claw to tear apart the notorious Yoshiko Sauna, former home to an alleged prostitution operation in Duluth’s Lincoln Park/
West End.
“It feels great; it has been a long time coming,” said Lund, who bought the building with the intention of tearing it down. “It makes me feel like Lincoln Park has taken a great leap forward.”
The building, at 32 N. 21st Ave. W., was long a problem for the neighborhood and police. In November, the city decided not to grant then-owner Suzy Woo-Young Kotts a massage establishment license. The denial was made after the city uncovered two prostitution convictions for Kotts, who had operated the Yoshiko Sauna as a massage parlor since 1991. It wasn’t until June 2008 that she applied for a massage

Detroit Massage Parlors: Alleged Duluth ‘house of ill repute’ demolished for new parking lot

October 30, 2009 at 5:24 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

DULUTH – As of Thursday, a spot in Duluth once under frequent police investigation is now a pile of debris.  Kevin Lund of Duluth bought the Yoshiko Sauna months ago and tore it down himself to bring about healing and progress.
On a chilly dreary day, under a steady rain, Kevin Lund sees sunshine.
“It’s going to be a great day,” Lund said, working an excavator he called a mechanical thumb.  He’s living out a dream he’s had for the Yoshiko Sauna building for some time.  “Buy it and knock it down,” said Lund, summing up his thoughts.
Lund owns other properties in the area and jumped at the chance to buy the building at 18 North 21st Avenue months ago.  That was when the former owner, Suzy Woo–Young Kotts closed down what she called a massage parlor.
