Detroit Massage Parlors: A voice for the silent

Human trafficking is considered to be one of the fastest growing criminal industries in the world and generates billions of dollars in profits, so how come no one is talking about it?
The state of Alabama is one of the few states currently in the process of enacting a law that requires that any hotel that has been cited, any massage parlour where an employee has been cited or any airport, train station or bus station – and any business that provides entertainment commonly called strip-teasing or topless entertainment – shall be required to place, in a location conspicuous to the public at the entrance of the business or where such posters and notices are posted, a poster with information and resources about the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline and the number to call in order to receive help, gain information, or report a tip or suspicious person.

Detroit Massage Parlors: The Star’s move exciting

The casino and its hotel and theatre, St. Clair College and a growing farmers market have all come downtown. The new riverfront stage is finished.
Despite the season, you can still see the green roof. I’ve been to a concert there, under a clear night sky with a full moon. Now we’ll have a university, library, art gallery, sports and recreation, maybe a museum, maybe a new university media school in the old bus station. Real destinations are materializing across the core.
With them will come people, lots of people, 1,000 more students and professors heading to classes, and families.
Following them, hope-fully, will be more businesses, restaurants and, could it be, shops other than convenience stores.
A few years ago, Windsor’s downtown was an abyss of kiddie bars, massage parlours and strip joints.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Arsons down slightly in Windsor

November 9, 2011 at 4:48 pm | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

… It was very obvious it was an arson.’— Gerry Corriveau, Windsor Police
“Once we were inside, along with Windsor fire, it was very obvious it was an arson,” Corriveau said. “It’s definitely an arson scene.”
Damage is extensive, especially inside, according to Corriveau. He didn’t yet have a estimated total in damage.
“It appears that the building is a write-off,” Corriveau said. “They won’t be cleaning up and operating tomorrow let’s put it that way”
Corriveau says no other businesses were damaged.
“Fire was contained by Windsor fire, so it didn’t spread and total the structure or anything like that,” he said. “Structurally, I have no concerns for the building.”
Police are still actively investigating fires at the Gossip Massage Parlour on Ouellette Avenue and at the Party Warehouse at 1030 Walker Rd. They happened in January and February, respectively.

Detroit Massage Parlors: Landlord’s bawdy house charge dropped

November 9, 2011 at 10:00 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

According to the facts read in court, officers with the Windsor police morality squad had seen him coming and going from the massage parlour.
He was charged with being the keeper of a common bawdy house and possession of a controlled substance.

As for the bawdy house charge, Bastien said he and his wife own the building, not the massage parlour. Outer Limits is only a tenant, said Bastien, and he has nothing to do with the business.

Bastien said police had been pressuring him to evict the massage parlour.
“They wanted us to not rent to the massage parlours who are our tenants,” said Bastien. “Under the advice of our lawyer, until they were charged with something illegal and convicted, we really didn’t have the right to evict them.”

Detroit Massage Parlors: Food Stuff

November 9, 2011 at 3:12 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

Acquired in 2008 by the Johnston family — the same that has owned the Woodward Avenue Brewers next door for 14 years and the Emory across the street for five, both staples of the downtown Ferndale bar scene — the Loving Touch is a former erotic massage parlor turned pool hall. At the jigsaw-puzzle bar, backlit by twinkling lights on branches, you can order anything from a $3 PBR or one of the craft brews it shares with its sister bar to a cocktail made with the Hard Luck Candy line of flavored vodkas distilled in Detroit. Patrons control an extensive jukebox list and compete in foosball or billiards — free on Sunday. The sultry glow from a sign depicting the silhouette of a naked woman illuminates nine pool tables at the front of the venue, while mossy wall hangings and artfully tucked record sleeves decorate the back. Wooden booths and tables that look as if they were uprooted from a forest are conducive to groups …

Detroit Massage Parlors: Dream bar crawl

October 19, 2011 at 3:12 am | In Detroit massage parlors | No Comments

LJ’s Lounge 2114 Michigan Ave., Detroit, 313-962-0013: Though it’s a quiet old-man bar on most days, the spill-over crowd from Slows Bar-BQ and the pre-party crowd from nearby dance shindigs makes it a memorable stop for bar-crawlers in the know. The brews are cheap, but be sure to get the price of that shot before you order it.
The Loving Touch 22634 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; 248-546-3644: Opened in late-’08, Ferndale’s new pool hall-lounge was once a massage parlor of the same name. Neat! Whatever the former’s business practices, the new version is one of the best bars for last call in metro Detroit. The Loving Touch is cozy with beautiful woodwork, welcoming atrium and it sports a badass juke, with many local rock stars in rotation. It’s lounge-casual, to be sure. What better way to cap a night than with sloppy billiards or in a booth with your pals, glowing from locally brewed beer? The LT has free pool on Sundays and Monday movie nights with Nintendo tournaments.
