Detroit Strip Clubs: ‘Little Voice,’ Bring Big Dreams To Planet Ant in Detroit
May 5, 2012 at 11:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsCartwright’s story addresses a universal theme – the search for love – and does so through a mother and daughter (and associated friends and newcomers) who are as opposite as opposite can be. Set in northern England in the 1980s, Mari (Linda Ramsay) is an aging, faded beauty whose hunt for a man knows no limits. Desperate to be taken care of, Mari will hook up with pretty much anyone with male genitalia, hoping he’ll be “the one” – and not just “the one for tonight.” (But in the meantime, that’ll do.) Her latest pursuit is Ray Say (Joel Mitchell), a small time talent agent – about half of whose clients are strippers. Arriving at Mari’s home and about to get to know each other in a rather intimate way, Ray hears a voice coming from upstairs. It belongs to Mari’s daughter, nicknamed LV (Inga R. Wilson) for “Little Voice,” who spends hours listening to and mimicking the stack of LPs (long playing album …

Detroit Strip Clubs: Report: Secret Service sex scandal spreads to El Salvador
April 26, 2012 at 6:36 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments… CBS News) As the fallout continues from revelations that Secret Service agents took prostitutes back to their hotel in Cartagena, Colombia, just days ahead of President Obama’s recent trip there, it appears others may have done the same with strippers in El Salvador in 2011, CBS affiliate KIRO-TV in Seattle reports.
…
The strip club’s owner confirmed parts of the subcontractor’s story to Halsne, namely that Secret Service agents and “high-ranking employees of the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador as well as visiting FBI and DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) agents” frequented his club. The strip club owner claims, however, “he doesn’t allow prostitution inside the club and that all his ‘girls’ are at least 18-years-old. He says the girls can do what they want after work, but he discourages them from making contact with customers at other locations,” according to KIRO-TV.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Romulus hearing focuses on cops
April 25, 2012 at 7:49 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe informant testified that two receipts in particular noted dates for days he remembers not working or receiving payments — his wedding day and a day he was in North Carolina for a wedding. He said St. Andre, who was a witness at his wedding, requested payment for $200 for a discussion on a cocaine deal at the Whiskey Bar & Grill.
The informant said that he didn’t receive any money that day and the visit to the bar was “to celebrate my marriage that had just occurred.”
During a brief portion of the testimony Tuesday, the informant accused Balzer and detectives Richard Landry, Jeremy Channells and Larry Droege of at least once participating in sex acts with strippers during undercover assignments at the Landing Strip in Romulus or Subi’s Place in Southgate.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Prosecutors, attorneys square off in police corruption case
April 23, 2012 at 9:01 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe preliminary hearing is being held in a boardroom at the Van Buren Township Council Chambers because it is much larger than the Romulus courtroom. The hearing had to be moved there because of the number of defendants in this case. The judge said the hearing could take days and maybe even weeks.
Among the prosecution’s evidence are 20,000 pages of what prosecutors say are the Police Department’s own paper work for St. Andre and his men who are accused of dipping into drug forfeiture money several times.
Joyce Clay, the long-time assistant to the chief, said St. Andre and the officers accused took money and expensed it to Subway. The figures were as large as $70,000, Clay said.
Prosecutors say St. Andre and his wife took cash and placed it in their own accounts and used the money to buy Sandra St. Andre her own business — a tanning salon.
The other officers are accused of launching a fake investigation into strip clubs and using the money for parties and prostitution.

Detroit Strip Clubs: Town hall focuses on middle-class tax hikes
April 17, 2012 at 2:12 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsSeveral state representatives from Oakland County held a town hall meeting in Farmington Hills Monday, focusing on middle-class tax hikes and a new tax on retirement income.
State Rep. Vicki Barnett, D-Farmington Hills, hosted the event at the Costick Center, which mainly focused on Republican-backed legislation last year that cut taxes for large corporations by almost $1.66 billion, according to a press release about the event.
We want to change the tax code so that it is simple, fair and efficient, Barnett said to a large gathering of folks.
Chrysler (which is an LLC, not a corporation) pays zero (taxes). That fails on the fairness doctrine.
Barnett said Meijer and Amway also pay zero taxes, while you lose many of the deductions you count on, Barnett said.
The average strip club down on 8 Mile pays zero, but they took away your deduction you gave to your church.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Goodwill store gets Dearborn Planning Commission’s OK — on fourth try
April 11, 2012 at 7:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No Comments… I never imagined they’d come up with this much of a challenge to the store,” Ukrainec said. “Their opposition was a misperception based on what thrift stores used to be.”
Goodwill’s proposal now heads to the city’s zoning board next week to show compliance with the signatures it was required to get from at least 51 percent of nearby home owners and businesses.
The zoning board will consider a variance to allow Goodwill to operate a thrift store within 700 feet of the K-8 Sacred Heart School, which also has voiced support for the project, Ukrainec said.
The city requires the variance for all adult-oriented businesses such as adult bookstores, strip clubs and pawn shops, as well as secondhand retail, to operate within that distance from schools in the city.
Detroit Strip Clubs: NEW: Wife says she was victim in post-strip club fight with hubby
April 10, 2012 at 7:48 pm | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsST. CLAIR SHORES – A St. Clair Shores woman charged with domestic violence for allegedly punching her estranged husband during an argument as they drove home from a topless lounge insists her actions were self-defense.
Jill Kain, 43, claims her spouse berated her and grabbed her by the back of her hair moments after they got into their car last week after leaving The Coliseum, in Detroit.
“I was attacked first. He weighs 80 pounds more than me — no way I would attack him,” the mother of two said.
Kain said the couple spent about six hours at the strip club, located on Eight Mile Road, and that her husband had “pretty much left me sitting there” without her knowing where he was. A brief argument ensued, and a bouncer calmed her down, she said, after which the couple agreed to leave the lounge together.
Detroit Strip Clubs: Proposed Dearborn Goodwill store moves ahead
April 10, 2012 at 2:24 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsThe City Plan Commission voted to recommend allowing the thrift store to open up on Michigan Avenue.
The issue now moves to the Zoning Board of Appeals on April 18 for a special variance. If a variance is granted, the store would open within six months.
Goodwill director of public relations Mark Lane said they were “ecstatic” Monday.
“We’re now going to get a chance to be part of this community,” he said. “We’re excited to get through this hurdle.”
The planning commission vote had been tabled for months. The main issue was securing special-use zoning, which needed the commission’s OK in order to request the zoning.
Under a city ordinance, resale shops fall under the same category as strip clubs and need to be within a certain distance from homes and schools.
