Detroit Adult Entertainment: Nigerian indicted in bombing try has skilled defenders
January 7, 2010 at 8:49 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsSiefer, 58, runs a taxpayer-funded office of about 20 attorneys who are appointed to represent those who can’t afford legal representation.
She oversaw her office’s defense of Karim Koubriti, one of four north African immigrants convicted in 2003 in Detroit on federal terrorism charges. A federal judge threw out the convictions because prosecutors withheld key evidence from Koubriti and the other defendants.
In 1995, Siefer was called in to represent James Nichols when he was arrested in connection with the Oklahoma City bombing that sent his brother Terry to prison for life and Timothy McVeigh to a federal execution chamber.
Earlier in her career, she defended Ronald Nitz against federal charges arising from the fatal baseball-bat-beating of Vincent Chin outside a Highland Park, Mich., strip club. The 1982 attack became a metaphor of the anger from Detroit’s declining auto supremacy in the face of Asian automakers.
