Detroit Adult Entertainment: Police tout data approach to cutting crime
December 12, 2009 at 6:25 am | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsDetroit’s violent crime task force targeted a neighborhood near Seven Mile and Gratiot after charting violent crimes on a map of the city and identifying the most violent area that was not already being addressed by a federal task force, interim U.S. Attorney Terrence Berg said at a news conference.
One significant result is a grand jury indictment unsealed this week that charges nine defendants with crimes including weapons offenses and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, heroin and marijuana, Berg said.
Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans said the approach involves shocking an area with three to four days of intense enforcement and arrests for drug dealing, crimes of violence, prostitution and other offenses. Questioning of those defendants produces intelligence which the federal task force develops into longer-term investigations, such as the one that led to this week’s indictment, Evans said.
