If convicted, Shamoon faces two years in jail for maintaining a gambling house and 90 days in jail for gambling, officials said.
Police raided Shamoon’s club at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after a six-month investigation, Dwyer said.
Of the 117 patrons inside, Dwyer said officers ticketed 41 people — from communities including Southfield, Sterling Heights, Troy, West Bloomfield, Shelby Township and Ontario, Canada — for disorderly conduct and frequenting a gambling house. The penalty is up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Police also seized poker cards, chips and nearly $26,000 in cash, Dwyer said.
In addition, authorities discovered violations of the state’s liquor laws and have filed reports with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
“We’ve cracked down on narcotics in the city, prostitution, and now following it up with gambling,” Dwyer said. “…We’re having a very positive impact.”
