Judge orders trial for 4 in ambush-murder case
George Hunter / The Detroit News
Detroit — Dr. Gary Ceresnie ventured from his Farmington Hills home to a prostitute-infested neighborhood in southwest Detroit looking for sex, according to court testimony Wednesday.
Instead, the retired podiatrist found himself in an ambush — a robbery attempt that turned into a fatal beating, said the two men and two women who will stand trial for the killing.
Detroit 36th District Judge Kenneth King determined during Monday’s preliminary examination that there was enough evidence to try Darrell Harris, 24, Teanna Keens, 32, Stephanie Cross, 19, and Kamico Jackson, 24, for Ceresnie’s Aug. 9 death.
They are charged with open murder and armed robbery.
Throughout the hearing, Helene Ceresnie, the victim’s wife, sat in the back row of the courtroom wearing sunglasses, next to relatives of the defendants.
