In September 2005, members of the FBI´s Southeast Michigan Crimes Against Children Task Force (SEMCAC), began investigating a prostitution ring involving three defendants: Dennis Paige, Sarah Dutton and Hortense Canty. After making a number of arrests of various girls associated with the organization for prostitution offenses, law enforcement focused on Dennis Paige (a.k.a., “Detroit Slim”), as the initiator and manager of the intrastate and interstate sex-enterprise. Paige was involved in the recruitment of a number of young women for prostitution, two of whom were minors.

Berg commended the work of the FBI, and South Eastern Michigan Crimes Against Children Task Force, a cooperative effort between the FBI, Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff´s Office and the Detroit and Madison Heights Police Departments. To date, SEMCAC has recovered over 40 minors being exploited as prostitutes and prosecuted 12 offenders federally since it´s inception in 2007.
