Detroit — A retired podiatrist allegedly was the victim of an old street con known as a “Murphy scam” in which a woman posing as a prostitute lures the prey to a spot to be ambushed and robbed.
But the attempted mugging of Dr. Gary Ceresnie of Farmington Hills escalated to murder, prosecutors say.
A 36th District Court judge today is expected to determine whether there is enough evidence to try Darrell Harris, 24, Teanna Keens, 32, Stephanie Cross, 19, and Kamico Jackson, 24, for Ceresnie’s murder.
Ceresnie, who practiced in Brighton before retiring last year, picked up Keens and Cross on Michigan Avenue east of Lonyo on Detroit’s southwest side the afternoon of Aug. 9, police said.
