Detroit Escorts: Some Detroit Council candidates: Blemished records

DETROIT – A newspaper says 19 of the 167 candidates running for Detroit City Council owe a combined $2.4 million in unpaid income and property taxes. Nearly one in seven has filed for bankruptcy, and 12 candidates have lost homes to the bank.
The Detroit News says in a story published Wednesday that its review of court, tax and property records indicates names on the Aug. 4 primary ballot also will include three felons, including one who served 81 months in a federal prison for racketeering related to prostitution.
Another candidate was convicted of second-degree murder.
The News says the majority of the candidates don’t have blemished backgrounds.
