DETROIT — Detroit City Council is poised to reverse new strip club rules in an effort to keep money and jobs in the city.
The Council took a straw vote Thursday to remove a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol inside adult entertainment clubs, a requirement that dancers wear pasties, and a requirement that dancers stay at least six feet from patrons.
There are about 1,600 employees that currently work in the adult entertainment business in the city of Detroit. Thats not just dancers. … There are a lot of people employed there, said councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins.
The council also introduced a zoning ordinance that would force new clubs to open in special industrial areas and stay 1,000 feet from schools, parks and churches.
