Detroit –The City Council could vote as early as today on a contentious strip club crackdown that drew more than 500 people to City Hall on Monday for a marathon public hearing.
The sometimes raucous crowd was dominated by religious leaders and residents who urged council members to reinstitute a proposed alcohol ban and rule that topless dancers wear opaque pasties.
“We don’t want our city patterned after Sodom and Gomorrah,” said Jerome Williams, a 61-year-old Detroiter who urged the council to get tough.

But strip club employees and owners said the rules would not reduce crime and only hurt business in an already struggling city.

“Some of the people in here I have seen in the strip clubs,” said Buffalo, who added the regulations will cost workers jobs.
