Judge denies city’s bid to file sealed motion to toss stripper lawsuit

A federal judge has denied a request by the City of Detroit to file in secret its motion to dismiss the case involving the investigation of a murdered stripper.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen on Monday said the city must first write its brief for summary judgment and identify what parts must be filed under seal before he decides whether to keep it under seal. The city also wanted to exceed the court’s 20-page limit on the brief.
But Rosen said both requests were premature because the city had not yet drafted its motion. Instead, Rosen said he would consider an objection to the 20-page rule, as well as a request to file it under seal, once the motion has actually been drafted.
