Pugh visits neighborhood to talk about strip clubs

Pugh visited the neighborhood in the first of three such trips to areas near strip clubs. The council is pondering what to do about such businesses because a moratorium on the clubs expires March 31.

“We come here because I want to hear from residents who live near strip clubs,” Pugh said. “We are here to listen. This is an issue that has urgency.”
A group led by the Rev. Marvin Winans, pastor of Perfecting Church, wants the council to force dancers to wear pasties, and ban alcohol, lap dances and VIP rooms. The council is looking at banning VIP rooms, requiring all strip club employees to be licensed and for dancers to perform on stage.

Pugh said he is also looking at incentives strip club owners can be offered to move out of residential areas and into industrial ones, and a cap on how many clubs can operate in the city.
